This. I was thinking the same.

Might be the time to get a 2018 RAM 1500. They are all 10k+ off here (i'd still take the Tundra)

Aside from the threads on howling diffs, leaking diffs, transmissions low on fluid, tranny's hunting for gears, fuel pumps chirping, a tuning thread with 18k posts on how to fix the trainwreck engine/trans combo, and vibrations from 1500-2500 rpm....

    Yea, no one really complains.

If I were in your shoes I'd be shopping for a Tundra or Raptor. That being said, if I had to go Tacoma or Canyon I'd go Tacoma every day of the week.

Most trucks will actually tow a load better than they'll stop loaded. The DuraMax in the Colorado is probably a pretty good engine however the mantinence cost are probably going to be higher. I'm not sure about the oil change intervals on the Colorado but most diesels usually require mantinence sooner than gas burners. If you talk to someone that owns a 2500 chevy they can give you a good idea of what it costs to replace injectors when needed. Like alot of others on here I Love my Tacoma and wouldnt even think twice about anything made by the big three. My last truck was a 2012 Tundra, now there's something that will tow your boat.... without the mpgs though.

I’ll tell you right now I have both! 2016 Canyon Diesel for the work truck and my personal is 2017 TRD Sport. The Toyota has way more room in the backseat. Hands down. Also the Canyon seats are WAY too bucketted. Kills me to ride in it for more than 2 hours over my Toyota. Last but not least, I love the Diesel engine however. Tons of torque and I get 28 to 30+ MPG.

Fwiw: I had nothing but problems with my tacoma and traded it in for a Subaru, but I would still pick one over the Colorado diesel.

Mostly because the math doesn't work for the Colorado diesel at all. Resale is in the Tacoma court and the maintenance on an economic diesel is going to be lame.

I know we're talking different vehicles here but, i traded in an '09 Z71 Silverado for my 2015 Tacoma simply because the Silverado started falling apart at 60,000 miles. Dash cracked, knobs fell off, driver side rear view fell off and other issues I won't go into. I understand all vehicles have their problems but this is my 4th Toyota including my wifes RAV4 and I'll never go back to a GM product. To each his own I guess but that's my say on the issue

Very true. I drive a 1988 ford F250 7.3l idi diesel as a beater. Thing looks like a old carb 454 chevy lol. It runs like a top and I dont have to worry about a turbo or the bullshit slapped on the top of it.To me that's the best it can get! Here is a small video of me starting it up after it sat for 2 years.

Former owner of 2 Duramax diesels over a 15 year period here. I'll never buy another diesel again. US diesel is way too dirty for the high pressure common rail fuel systems currently in use. It's not a matter of if, but when, you will have injector and pump issues. Then add on all the DPF and Urea crap on the newer ones and not just no, but hell no. The only cool thing was as I blew up parts on my last one I would replace them with something mo' better. Ended up with a truck that put out 600 hp and 1200 ft lbs to the rear tires when set to kill. I don't tow anymore so I have no need for a diesel. But, if I did? I would get a gaser all day every day. Like others have said it's not so much the motor but the chassis and brakes that will make or break a two vehicle. So, no matter which one you get, budget for a good trailer brake set up, maybe an air bag system to level out the truck under load, and put some E rated tires on it so you don't squirm all over the road.

Sour grapes anyone? Do the real math dude. 18K posts from maybe 200 guys. Whining diffs? Maybe 500 actual here? Sure, there are problems with any mass produced product. Sorry you got stuck with a lemon. You really should not dwell in the past though. Bad for your stress and all that.
Trainwreck engine/transmission combo? Yet the 19.5K that buy this truck every month seems to love them.

The Subaru forum is calling lol.

I am selling my 2006 F250 diesel with only 46K miles on it to get a tacoma. It's not my daily driver obviously and I sold my boat so to me it's not worth the cost of the maintenance to keep it. Seems like every time I prep it for a trip it cost me over $500.

My good buddy owns a 16 Colorado Duramax, 4wd, 4 door short box. He has only 20K miles on it now, not one issue yet. He did take the truck in once. He said dealer had a recall and re programmed the computer. He never had any complaints before, but after the dealer re program, he said the truck felt like it had more power and shifted even better than before.
He gets 28-31 MPG daily driving. He has a 3400lb boat, and when he tows he is not easy on it but still gets 17-18 mpg. He also owns a 2nd gen Tacoma with the 4.0 4wd, 6 speed. He says that Colorado tows so much better than his Tacoma.

I was going to buy one after riding in his a bunch. But at the time, my truck was 33500, and the lower model 4wd Colorado Duramax was 39-40K. Now the same duramax at my local dealer is 35K. If my local dealer would of offered me 35K on the duramax I would of bought that.

Honestly if you want the week to week towing capabilities go with a half ton. You can get bells and whistles and a big cab for the same price of the mid size diesel Colorado with the shitty pop-can interior.

    Hahaha

It's gotta buy me 3-4 years to let the truck market mature. I'll be back in a truck around then. I love my lez limo for now. It meets my needs and has almost everything I want in a vehicle. Plus it doesn't drive me nuts daily or have me at the dealership every month.

Tacomas still look great and I hope it all gets worked out.
