Most of the people complaining about mpg have aggressive tires, a few hundred extra pounds of metal, and stomp the gas pedal

I'd tend to agree with you, I always average 20+. I drove 100 miles of highway this weekend and got 24mpg, even with one stop for beer a few miles off the highway.

Edit: and with memorial day traffic on the way too.

Where is this 35k duramax? I'd travel cross country for that price.

And you expect less problems ?
    Good luck.

Guy here has a fairly new 4 banger Sub that has 0-60 time close to 10 seconds. Says it can't get out of its own way. Hope they fixed the head gaskets and have inspectors now lol.

Wifey drives a 2011 Outback with 124k and mechanically has been perfect. Now the head lights burn out all the fucking time!! I have become very efficient at changing them.

I have around 425lbs of added metal, slightly more aggressive tires, a 4 banger ... and still get better MPG than the majority of complainers on here while I am towing my camper, 2 dogs under my shell and another person in the passenger seat.

I couldn't do a Tundra. I honestly wanted to. Looked at them, had pricing, almost bought one.

But my F-150 gets 5 more MPG both city and highway and has comparable power. It also has things I wanted that I couldn't get in the Tundra like a rear locker, Android auto, factory bed lighting, factory power inverter, factory subwoofer, heated cloth seats. And I paid the same as I would have for an SR5 Tundra.

Longevity probably isn't the same, but realistically I don't keep vehicles more than a few years anyway. It'll probably never see more than 100k in my ownership.

Rent a full sized truck for the long distance hauls and buy a Tacoma. Upgrade the rear springs to an ICON RXT kit, I would ask the dealer to upgrade the tires to an LT version, I'm not a fan of "P" rated tires on a pickup. Upgrade the front shocks to Bilstein 6112 Series Front Kit and rear Bilstein 5160 Series. With the suspension upgrades, you'll have a tight, great handing truck in every situation-on and off road- for years to come.

I agree with what others have said RE: mileage. I have a stock 2017 with Stock sized tires and not additional racks, bumpers, etc. and just took a weekend road trip up into the Colorado mountains and averaged 23MPG. I am happy with that. That is with 4 of us and our luggage. If guys are getting 13 to 15 MPG then they have altered something or have uphill climb to and from home??

I think EPA is very easy to achieve in these. Come to think of it, I've been able to hit EPA on most vehicles I've owned.

Late to this thread but even though many reviews place the canyon "ahead" of the Tacoma, there are two reasons I will take a tacoma before a canyon any day of the week.

1- reliability and resale value. No contest there.
2- aftermarket parts and support, just look here the offering and selection of parts and accessories, canyon will never get that level of aftermarket support for offroad.

A guy I work with and I started this job at the same time at the beginning of the year. Both of us had to buy trucks to be able to work where we are and he got the Colorado Duramax and I got a TRD Pro. I am not sure what trim option he has but according to him he paid about the same price I did. Most days when I see him at work he always tells me that he should have got a Tacoma but for what reasons I am not sure since I haven't seen him long enough to ask why. When I get a chance to ask I will for sure. I do know seeing them side by side I would take the Tacoma any day based on looks and re-sale value. I have not seen the inside of the Colorado but the outside looks like a mini version of the 1500 stance and everything and I can't stand that about GM. Anyways I am rambling on but if I get a chance to ask him in today when he comes back I will and report back.
