Passenger side is simple, drivers side is more difficult but you just need to reach in and unplug the harness. (It's tight) There also is a hose to undo and and just fold it back out of the way. And as for the little heat shield just use a small 1/4 rachet and 10mm. Biggest thing that helped me was when you remove that rubber hose its connected to a hard line. Just push down on that hard line you can tuck it under a bracket and will stay out of the way. Then just removed the plugs with a long extension and stuck a magnet down in there and pulled the plugs out.

 I appreciate it. It'll be a while before I do it but doesn't sound/look too bad after having worked on Blackhawks "blind" and/or w/ mirrors. Tips like this are great.

I'm coming up on my 30k, and guess I missed the discount offer as I'm over 25k. I drive on some dusty roads, maybe 20% of the time, no roof rack, minimal towing. Do I still need to change all the diffs/tcase fluids? Seems expensive, but I always take good care of my trucks. And since my services up to 25k were free, is the 30k not more expensive than the previous ones? Based on the above factory list, it doesn't look like that much more service is included if you don't do the diff fluids etc.

Drive line fluid drain and fill is not included. You can read the forums and DIY it for far less.

If you read the fine print notations at the bottom of the 60k service page it states spark plug changes at 60k is required by the EPA. I changed mine at 60k without removing the intake. It was tight, but it can be done.

Anybody know what the dealership will charge to replace the plugs? I know it will be an absurd number...

It was $125 on my 2015 Lexus GS 350 f sport awd w/3.5L 60k change. So I'm guessing about the same for Tacoma. Iridium plugs.

While I agree that it's a little crazy to change the plugs at 30k, just because your car is still running great at 150k doesn't mean that you should skip the maintenance. As others have already said, that will put more strain on your coil packs, which are more expensive to replace. There are thousands of car owners out there that don't bother at all. You could probably go 400k on the same set of plugs, but should you? In my opinion, No.

Yes you can go 100k and more. However, if you look closely you will see I said it depends on the gap. If your gap is good at 30k don’t change them.
You should at least be checking them.
leaving them in for over 100k might make them a complete bitch to get out.

Anyone have pics of their old plugs that were removed? Seeing pictures with mileage numbers will really tell the tale. I have a hard time thinking these plugs are good for less than 100k regardless of what the epa thinks.

Hell I put 140k on a set in my old hemi ram. I kept checking them and they were always fine.

Go by the owner’s manual, not by the dealer recommendation. Those service writers are always looking to make a buck.
