My duratracs have been great and are about 1/2 worn out. I’ll probably buy the exact same thing again - stock size too. My truck is smooth as glass right up to about 150km/hr, the maximum I ever drive it. It has a mild lift too, TRD Pro suspension. Smmooottth.

    Got the same issue.

Tires were great for the first 20-25k but now with about 40k on them they are getting quite loud and plagued by vibrations.

When I first got em mounted the tech commented on the amount of weight they required and the same issue of the balancer kept telling him to add weight, and then add weight again... machine couldn't figure out one of the tires...

Looking at falkens for my next set. Was thinking about coppers but have been reading about tracking issues.

Religiously rotated these tires when I had them on my Jeep were great at first, but after 10-12k miles started to develop a shake. Absolutely terrifying tire in the rain which we get a lot of here. Liked to hydroplane in nothing and hardly any wet traction for braking. My firestone MT's had better street manners...

K20s are great too but I really wanted to keep to stock size 265/65r/17. I pull a horse trailer, and I’m not willing to sacrifice even 1 HP to bigger tires when they’re not necessary. My truck has about 2” of lift on it, sits level and looks good as well as being very functional on the trails I take it on. Duratracs come in stock size and are c rated as well, which is great. The other makes are all E rated which is pretty stiff for a light truck like a Tacoma. Anyway, I’ve been really happy with them. Mine are quiet, relatively speaking. They have about 45k on them, and I keep them rotated, and my wheeels are aligned so they’re not cupped or worn on the edge. When guys say they’re loud when they get old, it’s probably because their tires have uneven wear on them. Uneven tires can get pretty loud. With a mild lift and stock tires my alignment is perfect to specs, and everything runs like new. On the 400 series highways around here, I keep in the fast lane with the Audi’s without any shake. FWIW, my thoughts.

I have E Rated KO2"s....They have gotten noisier but no vibrations. I have about 18,00 miles on them.If I had a do over C Rated would have been a better choice for my needs. The tread life should be high.No noticeable wear yet.

I hear you, roadking1, and yes there are a lot of factors at play, so obviously in your case it might not even be the tires. There could be suspension issues, etc. There are a lot of components in the front end of a Tacoma that need to work harmoniously for a smooth ride, along with the tires. Sometimes tires can be out of round, but that was more common years ago, before manufacturing became the science that it is today. Good luck!

So what is a good A/T tire that is made good/round and balances good in 265/75/16? I prefer not to get a load range E tire. This is where the Duratracs are ideal because 265/75/16 come in load range C but too bad it's a crap tire.

I had the same bad experience with my Duratrac. Went with Cooper AT3 and couldn't be happier.

I just hit 20k miles on my Duratrac's and haven't had any issues yet. I rotate every 5k. I bought these primarily for their winter traction. I don't want to have a dedicated set just for winter. I've run Grabber AT2's and KO2's on previous vehicles and these perform the best of the three in winter. Tread wear has been great as well. I've only used 2/32's in the 20k I've put on them.

Ha, I went the other direction and just ditched the Cooper ATW for the Duratracs. The ATW was hands down the fastest wearing tire I have ever had and only mediocre in the snow...and they weren't cheap. Just not worth messing with IMHO.

The ATW is a snow/winter specific tire, of course they're going to wear fast.

ATP and AT3 are a totally different design.

I know this all can be confusing but you have to rotate your tires & keep them balanced . I run Duratracs 265/75/16 C rated ,30 something K on them. They run smooth as silk & have a ton of wear left on them. I wouldnt hesitate to buy a second set. They are truck tires. Dont expect them to sound like tires on a BMW.

So my local America’s Tire got Goodyear to give 50% credit towards the purchase of new tires. Is this a fair deal considering my tires are 4yrs old with 40k miles on them?

The caveat is I have to use the credit towards Goodyear tires but they can be any model. The problem is Goodyear doesn’t have another tire comparable to the Duratrac. I was looking at the Trailrunner AT and they seem to be step down from the Duratrac.
