    Hi Everyone-

I have had my 2018 TRD Sport for about 6 weeks now and I absolutely love it. This is my first 4x4 vehicle and have a few questions/concerns. I want to start doing some off roading in it. Nothing too crazy since it is my everyday vehicle; but I live in San Diego, and there are a ton of cool spots in the desert that I would love to check out. I am not interested in doing any rock climbing or anything like that; I guess my question is, how good is the 4x4 in the sport version and will it do what I want (desert canyon trails to go camping)?

I look forward to your feedback.

Welcome! Your truck, in it's stock form, will go much further than your courage. Have fun!

Congrats I just got the same truck also! Definitely want to look into different tires with those plans. I had mine out at my wife's family farm with my "city slicker" tires on. I didn't get stuck but I also wasn't looking for trouble either.

Our stock wheels weigh 62#'s each but if you go with these you will only add 8#'s per wheel. That's my plan but I'm not going into serious mud or rock crawling either.

TRD 4Runner 17" wheels & 265/70r17 BFG KO2 All Terrain in C load. This is a proven combo that is the lightest option & will fit without spending money on a lift.

Ultra Flex bed cover, TRD PRO Grille, 32" LED light under grille, Pop n' Lock on tailgate, OCD organizer for center console and glove box, LED bed lights, OEM bed mat, black TACOMA tailgate letters, LED illumination light package, black vinyl overlays for badges, OEM bed step, plasti-dipped front valance and mirrors, 15% tinted windows and sun strip, vinyl letters on dash, vinyl letters on tailgate handle and door sill protectors, TRD Pro shift knob, home-link rear view mirror, mountain vinyl decal above Tacoma on door, FN FX pro wheels, AVS bug deflector, AVS in-channel window vents, front bed rail, red line hood struts, LED interior lights, TRD Pro skid plate, slim line front license plate holder, CaliRaised LED Ditch light brackets with LED lights, Bilstein 5100's, OME 888's, Dakar HD leaf springs, cubby covers, CaliRaised LED Fog light kit,
I am looking to purchase the FN FX Pro style wheels from FN wheels since theirs are only 23.88 lbs each, these were the lightest 17" wheel I could find. The stock TRD Sport wheels/tires I have on weight 68 lbs each. With new wheel (24 lbs) and new tire 285/70R17 Cooper Discoverer AT/3's (44 lbs). Looking at staying the same weight with a larger size tire than stock. If I go BFG KO'2s, it would be 75 lbs each wheel/tire.

MrBrooks. . .that set up is beyond awesome and is actually exactly what I am looking to get. Do you have any tire rubbing with that set up?

I've had the plan of getting these way before I got the truck. Very versatile & don't add much weight plus these are actual Toyota wheels. I like the idea that I'm not doing anything that will give the service dept an excuse to "void" my warranty. Later on down the road i will go bigger just not yet...

BTW the truck in the picture isn't mine just one I saved on my phone of the setup on a silver sky so I have a reference. I think that is lifted & tire size is a tad bigger
