So don't want to ask a stupid question , butnever noticed this before

Went through a pretty big mud hole fast and mud went everywhere in my engine bay now I'm smelling a weird burning smell

I'm assuming it's just the mud burning on something hot or could there be another issue happening???

Have you thoroughly washed the engine bay and the smell is still there. If so, I would look for debris like wood or plastic that might be hung up on the exhaust manifolds or tailpipe. As far as mud goes, some of that can smell pretty bad too.

I haven't washed the bay thoroughly through yet , was unsure of what can get wet and what needs to be protected without wrecking anything?

Just open the hood and use a spray nozzle, just try not to soak the injectors and fire wall or battery. Just spray it down, but not when the engine is hot.

Spray from underneath too, you will probably need to to do it a couple of times depending on how much mud is on your truck. Mud sucks:(

Spray out your brakes and especially the rear drums too.
