Just bought this truck 3 weeks ago with 10 miles on it.

It started making this noise about a week ago, every time I put it into drive from reverse or park it shortly after makes this odd noise coming from where my feet are.

Any idea what this is and how to fix it? Should I drop it off at Toyota?

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

It’s a Toyota truck. Drive it until it breaks.

Are you referring to that little tiny sound that sounds like a spring?

Right towards the end of the video. You can barely hear it. Mine does it as well I always assumed it was the spring inside the headlight switch. Seems to be normal but I could be wrong.

Didn't sound weird at all. All noises are not bad. I wouldn't think twice about it.
Where you start to be concerned is if a noise gets louder or longer. If OP is worried, take it in for an inspection at the dealer.

Maybe its normal? I've never heard it on any other vehicle I've ever driven. Seems odd but I guess its all good in the hood.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I have the same noise. I always assumed it was just the spring inside the headlight switch. Always thought it was normal. But like hiPSI said. I wouldn’t worry to much. But yet again we do have warranty and it wouldn’t hurt to have them confirm that it’s normal. For peace at mind. :)

I would be curious what it actually is making the noise.

I heard it from day one, it happens every time you take off, so I got used to it.

It could be about a million things. Maybe it could be your caliper pins, backlash changing from reverse to forward gear, clock spring in steering wheel, suspension components from weight shift and about a ton of other things. No worries unless it gets louder or longer.

it sounds like a tick or click to me. for some weird reason my mind pictures the odometer engaging (old school style with the rotary numbers) but I know the odo is electronic...

Usually, USUALLY, (lol) when you move backward in reverse and stop, then shift into drive, you have the brake engaged when you make the shift. What happens of course is the vehicle wants to move forward, but the brakes are applied. However, you will feel a slight lurch forward and your brake caliper can then make a click noise. This is one of the most common sources. If you want to test it, try this:
Back up and go through the process like you normally do. Next, do the exact same thing but be much more deliberate with your actions and firmly apply the brake before you shift and keep them firmly applied. When shifting to drive, s l o w l y. release the the brake. Do you hear the noise?

no this noise happens when you press the accelerator not when the brake is still depressed.

Releasing the brake right before pressing the accelerator.

no the noise is not coming from the brakes.
what I am describing is: brake has been released, the vehicle is starting to roll forward and your foot starts depressing the gas pedal, as soon as the vehicle responds to the gas the noise is heard. it sounds like is inside the cabin under the dash on the left side

When you release the brake it is not an instant event. The brakes on your truck are electronic. They will make noises like that. What it sounds like is your traction control thinking you are slipping(... brakes apply to whatever wheel)--as it reacts super quickly.
I don't think you understand the truck well enough to tell people no. I think you need to read the owners manual a little more.

@pancakes15 It's completely normal. It's the hydraulic brake booster on your off road doing it's thing.

    You're right I don't. That's why I joined this forum to learn.
I should have said "no, I don't think..." to clarify but I assure you, "I don't think" the noise is coming from the brakes. I am almost positive the noise is coming from under the drivers side dash.
Please regale me which section or pages of the manual I should be reading.

I believe that’s the ABS selftest. I had a 17 taco offroad and now have a 18 4Runner offroad and they both do it.

I have the same noise. it has to do with ABS calibration I believe. Normal for these trucks.
