The point is different than the falls! It’s just a spot to camp on the rim and it’s a ways off road

Maybe you can find something in a National Forest nearby. Most of them have dispersed camping where you camp wherever basically. If you go slow and are careful you could make it down the big roads in most national forests in a Hyundai. Also check out freecampsites.net and campendium.com if you haven't already. I use these websites a lot when I'm looking for a place to camp. They generally have pretty good descriptions of the conditions of the road leading to the site.

Think I don’t want to go full mud. Liked the RTs I had more than the MTs

I was just there, there are TONS of campsites you could get to with a prius, on the way out to Havasupai Point, but they are just in the forest with no view of the canyon.

    The Point.

Love my ST Maxx. Will probably get them again.

I think the Xtreme only comes in certain sizes.

Is hiking required to get from Havasupia to the Grand Canyon? We’ll likely just be passing through since we’ll be on a time crunch but she loves backpacking and all that so we may have to find some extra time.

For the hiking portion, do you need to get any sort of permits? Same thing with camping.

Did you do any hiking when there? And did you stay just inside in one of the forests? Reservations? A view of the canyon for camp isn’t super necessary since we’ll be exploring likely some the day before and after. But the closer we stay to the canyon, the easier it is to get back to it

Not there, we hiked a few different places around the canyon though (drove around the entire canyon). We camped at the point, a back country permit is required. The forest access is very close to the main South Rim entrance, here:

Where all are you guys planning to go?

They're awesome. They grip so well on and off road. They're amazingly quiet, and they wear very well. I've got about 40k on mine now. I'm doing a 5 tire rotation, but at this rate I should be able to get 80k out of them fairly easily. I'm probably gonna start looking for deals on a new set though, so I can still sell these on Craigslist for a decent amount and then have new tires. I think Amazon occasionally runs stupid good deals on my size, like close to $100 a tire good...

Agreed. I was thinking the c rated ridge grapplers if I go with those. I’ll be looking into a lot though. AT2 extreme is interesting

Haven’t heard a bad thing about them yet. I’m happy with the generals I’ve got now but I want something a little but more aggressive next time and the St Maxx’s should fit the build perfectly

For camping at the point, that’s accessible via small vehicle? Are there assigned campgrounds at the point or is it just wide open and you pick where you camp? Reservations required for here or just the permit?

We’ve got 9 days between me ending my internship and starting school back up. She’s starting grad school at UC Davis so she’ll be staying and I’ll be flying home. Right now, we’re going to try and make it from VA Beach to somewhere in Missouri in 1 day (likely Mark Twain) and from there to somewhere in CO the next day. Go from CO to Arches and the Grand Canyon the next day and that’s all we’ve got now. I’m flying out of SFO so we've got 4-5 days at least to make it from the Grand Canyon to there. We plan on doing most of out seeing in that one and basically want to get there as fast as possible. We haven’t really researched much for that part of the trip either so any recommendations are appreciated

As for tires, I’ll either hop on one of the next two Discount tire sales. I’ll be doing the 5 tire rotation as well since I’ll be hoping up to 17s from 16s

For camping at the point, that’s accessible via small vehicle? No, too rough. Are there assigned campgrounds at the point or is it just wide open and you pick where you camp? Assigned, via the permit. Reservations required for here or just the permit? Just the permit at the point, the rest of the forest is free dispersed camping.

CO>Moab>GC isn't really a day trip, that's like 7 hours of driving best case from the CO/UT border alone. I would recommend picking one and spending a whole day there, the drive is great regardless but you will want to take it in a bit more if you only have a day for both of them.

Noted. We may end up spending more time in the CO>Moab>GC part but planning is only starting now. I’ve seen a good amount of CA and she’ll be there for at least the next 2 years so seeing CA isn’t out priority right now. I’m at work right now so I’ll take a look and read through those links tonight. Thanks

I’ll give them a call sometime this week to figure out about the hiking permits. I know there’s permits required for hiking certain parks so we’ll see. I’ve got till August so I’ll call everyday if I need to, just want to get this all sorted now so I can book a ticket home
