Speaker help???

Just need some quick advice as i have a deal that will expire today at a local shop so I have to pull the trigger and grab some upgraded speakers.
I am only looking to purchase door speakers here.
Front doors ...6x9 .......Do I want a 3 way??????
Rear doors ...6.5"???? Do I want a 2 way???
I am running the stock HU
I plan to upgrade the tweets to the subaru kickers.
Maybe one day an amp and sub as i have a couple amps at home,but just this upgrade for now..

Anyone know the difference between the Kicker DS and CS series?
The shop does not have the CS but only DS

For the fonts, you want a set of component speakers that have a stand alone tweeter and cross over. The tweeters will replace the ones on your dash and provide your higher pitched notes. The rear speakers can be 2 or 3 way.

Regardless, unless you do an amp and new wiring from amp to speakers, you aren't going to gain much improvement to sound as the new speakers will not get enough power from your OEM head unit.

If you merely want to improve things, I'd just try the subaru tweeters and see how you like things.

BTW - here is a comparison of stock Taco speakers vs aftermarket replacements. Note the size of the magnets on each... you need a lot more wattage / power to drive aftermarket speakers.

 

I noticed a huge improvement upgrading door speakers ( and tweeters) , and while they could improve further with an amp i do think they're getting enough power to be where i need them to be. I would think this depends on which factory head unit you have as well. (i have the entune premium)

 

Yeah if you have entune premium then it can drive aftermarket speakers fairly well. I replaced all my door speakers with Rockford Fosgate Prime's and the tweeters with the Subaru tweeters. The sound is very good now. I'm sure you could go nuts and put an amp and a sub and all sorts of stuff but for me it's not needed.

No need for 6-8 tweeters ...at all. It will ruin any semblance of a true sound stage and just make everything overly bright and harsh.

Go for separates up front with tweeters in the dash and mids in the rear doors for fill. Sub will come later when you're fully hooked and go audio mod crazy lol.

 

You could get everything needed for all 4 door speakers, plus the Subaru tweeters on Amazon for about $220. Possibly cheaper from Crutchfield for the speakers as they include adapters and such free. Then $93ish for the Subaru tweeters on Amazon.

There's nothing magical about the Subaru tweeters. Several people make adapters for the dash for ~ $20.

You can get a good set of 6.75" components for $80, put the mids in the rear doors and the tweeters in the dash.

You don't need to spend that much.... you will be very happy with this DIY solution and INCLUDING buying the kicker tweeters you'll be in for around $250... just a suggestion that's worked for a lot of folks

Iactually did something close a few years back. When coming back thru i was asked... Anything to declare? Have u done any modifications or alterations to your vehiclewhile here?

I always carry tools in my truck in case of a breakdown or helping another motorist.

 

The DS, I think are more of a standard stock upgrade using your factory head-unit. The CS make a little more power and even are marketed to give you good volumes out of a factor head-unit but also have the ability to take a beating from an amp. Can't speak to the DS though... if it's a great deal then I'd just hop on it. you don't even have to stay w/ Kickers either... any decent 6x9 up front with a 6.5 midrange in the rear will work fine. Sounds like you could get it all plus some tweeters done for a reasonable price. There are reviews in the other thread where folks have used infinity, rockford, etc., with good results as well
