I am sad to report that a 2010 Taco 4WD was considered "totaled" after I got hit on a highway. I loved the truck. Not too many mods, except for a front hitch and rack for fishing off beaches. But it was perfect. The fact that I walked away from a front hit, at around 50 mph, into a concrete barrier makes me want another Tacoma. The fact that I am getting more that 20K from insurance is proof of the value these trucks hold.

    RIP Silver Truck!

Thank you Bishop! Lower back pain is all I have from a violent hit. Hope you all stay safe out there in your Tacomas!

Sorry for your loss...... Love the front fishing platform!

Hope the ice chests weren't full of beer and fish when she took the hit?

    Fish On!

Sorry about the truck OP, glad you are okay. Trucks can be replaced!

Love the surf fishing set up off the front, that's pretty awesome.

Did your rods get damaged? That would be my concern.

Thanks for the nice thoughts everybody!

For those wanting to see carnage, you will be very disappointed. I got hit hard on the driver's side crew cab door, which spun me left across the fast lane into the concrete barrier head on. I think the Curt front hitch receiver took the direct hit which bent the frame of the truck. Bumper got cut up bad, hood and lights were all shifted a bit out of place, but it didn't crumple. They figured it would cost almost 20k to fix and it still probably wouldn't drive right. Here are some shots of the aftermath.

Here she is... a 2017 TRD Sport that had 5k miles, a little lift, and some bigger tires (now to get a new front hitch for some beach adventures).

Sorry aboutayour 2nd gen, but that 3rd gen is Nice!

For a front hitch, I vote the Mobtown setup. It's high clearance and comes with shackle mounts.

sorry for your loss but glad you walked away.

Question, why do all of the ocean fishing trucks like these have front mount hitches with coolers and rod holders.... isnt that what the bed of your truck is for?

Keeps sand out of the bed of your truck, creates a work station to rig up lines, and quick access to your cooler. Some guys carry multiple coolers and will keep food and beverages in the bed, but bait/fish up front. It's also nice if you want to change locations, you don't need to break down your 12ft rod, or like me, throw them up on the roof which requires taking the rigs off.

Wow- you have a great set up. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely look into the Mobtown. I like that it sets up higher.

Glad you were able to walk away in one piece. Good times ahead with the new 3rd Gen!
