    Its all about what you want. Yeah the auto might be faster with an upgrade but for me its not even close to as fun. And performance wise the rev hang is pretty negligible. So from my perspective, the manual is better.. far better imo.

    even without the shift kit.. it still shifts faster. I've done pulls with my buddy out here with the same truck.. boosted..etc.. but with a manual.. and he cant keep up. but I agree, at the end of the day, its all what you want. I've had both.. across multiple tacomas, and still prefer the Auto.. for many reasons.

    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    At least the auto in the second gens is competent and well matched to the engine, same for my land cruiser. But the third gen one is just all wrong.

    Your buddy must not be a very good shifter lol. From my experience a stock auto does not shift that quick. I would say the main advantages for the auto are technical crawling and slower trails where you would otherwise burn up your clutch.

    Ha... but agreed. crawling is where it shines, and ultimately was my deciding factor for this Taco. too many *&^#% moments with the manual and wheeling, now I just enjoy it. but.. if I ever get a daily (car) better believe its a manual.
