Not terrible by any means, just better options. They do have the ambiance though. They are too big now and cook elsewhere and finish it on that pit. The ribs are actually pretty darn good though.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.

Buried pig. Had it for our wedding. Great way to do it. But those little ones would fit in a lot easy enough

Was poking around on the BBQ Brethren site when I saw this. I count 12. Almost enough to put a dent in @scottalot 's pile.

    Thanks.

The local Academy Sports stores usually have some on display outside. They chain 'em up and leave them out.

They had a Brazos and a few Pecos models that sat out a while and had some rust spots.

I asked about the Brazos (same dimensions as Pecos....just thicker steel + a shelf in the main chamber). The salesfolks couldn't authorize any discounts at that time.

Fast forward a month and I went by Academy in my day old Tacoma to get a load of smoking wood & some lump charcoal. No grills outside.......but they had two Pecos models indoors and they'd been exposed outside. The manager told me I could get either for 40% off.

The rust on each was very superficial.

I bought one and had it home inside of an hour.

The rust was wire brushed off with great ease. I hit it with two cans of Rustoleum grill paint and let it dry in my garage for two weeks. I then hit it with a can of spray canola oil and do so periodically. Shiny like new and runs great.

It's a much more substantial offset than I could have possibly bought from Lowe's, Home Depot or similar store. I've had those...stamped metal, bolted together. They run okay, but this one runs more steady and should last longer.

I wish I'd been more persistent on that 1/4" thick Brazos model, though. No way I could touch the deal that someone got on that "rusty" one....$600 for it.....grrrrrr.

The Vortex has been a much used tool for my Weber kettles. Works like a charm. Wing wizard.

Works perfectly on steaks, too. Nice hot sear right over it.....and offset to finish off........or reverse order.

I like how you did that sauce, too.....great way to heat it up and combine the flavors !!!!!
