New England B.S. Thread

Meh. It's not that bad, really. I usually do a marathon one Saturday in the spring and spend the day chasing the saw around and get the entire batch cut down to stove length in one fell swoop, then stack it all. That way I can just grab the maul and split as I have spare time in the evenings. Beats sitting on my butt watching TV after work, lol. Sometimes if I get motivated on the weekend I'll split a full cord or so, but usually I chip away at it early or late in the day when the sun isn't beating down on me.

I hear you. I’ve been doing mine early morning before it gets to hot. I’m not in a rush. We don’t have a fireplace or wood stove so all of this is just going up to camp.

 

For me it's my primary heat source, but spacing it out definitely makes it less daunting of a task than looking at it as "I've got to put up 6 cord for wood for this winter" and trying to do it all at once. I may cave and buy a powered splitter eventually, but for now I actually enjoy splitting it by hand. After all day at work it's nice to do something physical and mindless when I get home.

My wife got a job a Clark University as a professor, so now I'm moving to the Worcester, MA area, in August. Being from the west (CA & AZ) I enjoy S.C.U.B.A., camping, fishing and bird hunting with my GSP.

I'm looking forward to trying deer hunting and cross country skiing.

But I'm nervous that there isn't much for wild bird hunting. Anyone on here that can speak to the bird hunting? Quail, duck or etc?

What about spear fishing off the coast?
What's the stream fishing like? Salmon?

there are spots to hunt ducks, I have some coworkers that stay in mass and hunt, duck, deer and pheasant. I do hear a lot that the pheasant sites are a little over worked so a lot of people come up from MA to NH.

 

Pheasant, at least where I am ,are box birds.
Best chances for wild birds is Maine,Vt, and NH ,and that would be Paaahtrige, or Ruffed Grouse to flatlanders. I used to hunt them in Vt's Green Mtn Nat Forest.
Think they're almost non existent here in ct. Only saw a couple in the last 20 years.
Plenty of other critters to hunt in NE.
Deer,bear, Turkey, coyotes, and small game.

 

Ruffed grouse and partridge are around too, more in northern nh and Maine. There are holdover pheasants which become wild

Horrible night, take 2. Youngest just woke up throwing up. Probably coming down with something... This is what happened last time. Same type of pattern. Might explain the horrible night last night.

I was miserable at work today because I only got 2 hours of sleep, and some things happened and were said last night that made it worse. Had a mental breakdown.

Who said having kids was fun? Fuck me.

 

Right there with ya, our almost 2 year old is spending his first night in his “big boy” bed as he escaped the crib last night, 3 month old is waking my wife up every few hours. Had to call out of overnight to help her keep 2yo in line while she feeds 3 mo old. Our house is beyond babyproofed but he continues to get into/break shit.

 

That sounds rough right there. I feel for you.

Not gonna lie... My mental health is on the brink. I need to address it before something bad happens.

 

At the end of the day we need to remind ourslves they’re kids, they don’t know any better. We all had to learn at some point.
Easier to deal with these two rascals than the knuckleheads I deal with at work.

As for MH, there’s always someone there for you you just need to let them know and not be too proud to reach out before it’s too late.

I, honestly, don’t know you from a hole in the wall, but the acknowledgement that you need to do something is a step in the right direction.

 

Yeah, for sure. Totally understand they're just kids. No problems with that. Just things that happen/happened and come with the territory sort of speak, that I think/feel are affecting me mentally. Definitely not too proud to reach out, and definitely acknowledge that I may have a problem. Something I definitely need to look into and address.

Slept on the couch because the wife fell asleep in our bed with the youngest after giving her a bath because of throwing up, and I didn't want to risk waking her up when trying to put her in her own bed.

But hey, at least I got 5 hours of crappy sleep, versus only 2 the night before, so... yay!

 

Morning all. Hopefully my jeep lands in the East Brookfield railyard today like they said it would.

There is great deer hunting in western mass and some beer as well. Pheasants will be boxed and released, there are clubs around that you can join for birds. We definitely have ducks and turkeys but spearfishing I have no idea. You can fish, lobsta and clam if that help. Enjoy the right coast and congrats to the professor

Our fish & game stocks pheasants on our property. Why don't they just give up them already dressed for dinner???

 

What happened the the grumpy old man, "get off my lawn post" that I responded to? Anyway the private property trespassing is a real problem, show common sense and courtesy and you will be good. Totally agree but there is still alot ot state land that can be hunted, I have knocked on doors and spoken with people, some are ok with it "cause their dad or brother used to hunt" and make a relationship with someone, help with working their property and you will be good. I hunt out near Sterling with a buddy and we are on public land.

 

Can they smoke it for me too
