more jacks??

do i need to buy more jacks to change my oil/brakes? what other methods are there of lifting up your truck to get underneath safely?

why would you need jackstands to change oil? u have a prerunner right? should be able to fit under there.

jackstands aren't that bad...

 

Definitely not what I did. I almost died last week when my truck fell on me.

Just make sure you can get a couple 3 ton jack stands and put them UNDER the frame.

It doesn't matter how you get it up in the air: hydraulic floor jack, stock spare scissor jack, hi lift jack. Just make sure you have stands under the frame before you get under there.

I suppose you could use the jack your truck came with but that will get old real quick. You should be able to pick up a floor jack and a pair of jack stands pretty cheap. And note ALWAYS use the jack stands, never trust your jack.

what happens if the e-brake isn't engaged? and where exactly do i put the jackstand in the front center?

 

the truck has a very good chance of rolling off the jackstands and killing you

jack the truck up from the brace in the middle. i know u 6 lug people are different tho

you don't need to put ajackstand in the middle but you use the jack in the middle and its always nice to leave it there if possible for extra precaution and if you need to adjust the truck

 

I don't want to sound like an @ss, but base off of this statement I wouldn't recommend that you work on your truck when working underneath, anytime soon that is. Don't want to hear about you getting hurt.
However, there is nothing wrong with doing research on this (which you are) and having someone show you in person that knows what they are doing.
Just make sure to do a lot of research and get someone to show you.
This is nothing to mess around with.

ya i completely agree with you. i don't plan on doing my first brake/oil change anytime soon. i just recently became a member here which is what sparked my interest to take care of my own car. im planning on buying a repair guide book and watching the guys at the shop work on it and going from there. well i'll probably watch and observe more than once before i actually get my hands dirty.

 

^ as long as you can get a friend to help you out the first time, its not the hardest thing to do. its always good to have someone with you that can keep an eye out

I could get under it just fine even before my lift.

 

well if u have the v6, its a good truck to learn on. oil filter is super easy to get too
