Trading my new 2018 Taco OR 4x4 for a used 2017 Limited?

    Hi everyone,

I’m new to this forum and I appreciate y’all and your opinions.
So I purchased a new 2018 Tacoma OR 4x4 last week and the salesman misinformed me about available options. (BSM, sunroof, leather)
I trusted the salesman (1st mistake) and didn’t do my own research (2nd mistake).

Afterwards, I found out I missed out on the available options.

Would I be insane to try and trade my taco in for a used 2017 limited 4x4 with all the options? It has 6k miles.
Or trade it for a new Tacoma with the options I want?
    My Tacoma has 850mi.

    Thanks y’all!

Well depends on how much you want those options. I mean you could get nice seat covers, but you cant get a sunroof. BSM is junk in my opinion for this truck at least for the 2017.

-If your missing the leather option, you can always get Katzkin.
-BSM to me is not necessary as my neck and eyes are fully functional.
-The sunroof however can't be replaced.

Your going to take a hit on the trade and getting an older model vehicle. Most things can be replaced later on for cheaper (i.e. leather seats.)

I say don't do it, keep your truck and enjoy it. My two cents.

Wow thanks guys for the quick response!

The guy that sold it to me barely spoke English. (Another mistake on me)

But there’s no way I can go back to them.

I paid 34k for mine which from what I’ve researched is pretty good.
    I’m looking at a 17 taco limited with 6k miles for $35000.
I just don’t know if it’s worth the hassle.

Keep your truck, pay $500 for some Katzkins leather seats.

But if you'll regret the sunroof and BSM then no one can change your mind there.

You'll lose adaptive cruise control. Probably the best thing about TSS. Also, I'd make sure you fit in a truck with a sunroof before you go losing thousands of dollars.

Oh yea, good point. The inside liner hangs down more because of the sunroof hardware.

Well, for me I hate leather seats living in the south... I prefer the Coverking Neoprene covers. Not cold or hot and easily sponge off with some wetsuit cleaner and wear well.

For the sunroof, while I generally like a sunroof. Not on this truck - it takes a lot of headroom away imho and there isn't a ton in the Taco to begin with. That and I have racks and stuff on top most of the time so wouldn't be of much use aside from light / ventilation...

I also have zero radar / monitoring / nanny stuff on my '17 and I will keep this truck a long long time for that very reason.

You have a good truck and the 18's seem to have a better tuned transmission / engine based on those I've driven than the 17s.

You would've paid $3400 for those options if your salesman hadn't misguided you. Figure out which ones are important to you and either add them to what you have or trade the truck. Have you spoken with the GM of the dealership? They want to keep you as a happy customer. If you tell them you were misguided by a salesperson and wanted those options, they might make it right. To me, the TRDOR is a better truck (better suspension, braking, locking differential, wheels/ tires, crawl control). Adding aftermarket leather from Katzkin or Classic will cost about $1000-1500 and you'll get a better interior than you would've gotten OEM from Toyota.

You could always trade for a new 2018 Off Road with Premium and Tech package as it will have the things you want instead of buying a used 2017 Limited.

I agree with aftermarket leather possibly being better. Several posts already popping up about premature wear on the leather already.

The BSM is just ok. It works about 75-80% of the time. I wouldn't trust it to prevent a wreck.
Lane assistance is annoying and works about 70% of the time. I turn it off most of the time.
Collision detection is ok and it works, but I've had it randomly tell me to brake when there was nothing in front me (cars parked on the side of the street).
Like others said, you can get some damn good leather covers that look as good/better than factory. Personally, I hate that poo brown leather in the Limited, though you can get black on the 18s.

    So that leaves the moonroof.

Also keep in mind that (from what I've read), the shocks on the Limited are different than the OR. So you may be replacing those later depending on use.

As a side note, you could order exactly what you want (wait around 1-3 months) and then trade in your current for it. You might be underwater depending on what you put down on your OR, but it might be worth it to have exactly what you want. I'd test drive some with moonroof and see how you feel about it.

I have a 18' with all the packages; leather, BSM, sunroof, etc. its amazing, coming from a 15 with none of that, I wouldn't have it any other way. but you're looking at 37K+ if you want it all in a TRD.

Happened to me this morning, same time of day, same road I take every day to work, same cars parked on the same wide shoulder. I’ve only had the truck 4 weeks, never had it happen before. Had no idea what it was or why my truck was telling me to brake.

Mine did this going about 35, nothing on either side, it's a country road. A little unnerving. Clear day, clean truck.

+1....A Limited is going to be much easier to find as it comes standard with Tech and Premium. But, depending on how willing the dealership is to work with you, you could entertain ordering the correct Off Road. Personally, I would rather have the Off Road anyway.

I would not want the limited. It probably is not much cheaper than a new one.

Keep the truck you have. Most importantly its an Off Road 4x4. Add Katzkin leather to it for $1,000.00, which is better than the factory, and drive it for a couple years. In a couple years, trade it in on a new one with the other options you wanted.
