Thank you! This is how the Tacoma should behave, and there's no reason for it not to. Yes, the throttle response on the current tune is better than stock but it is still abysmal compared to anything else.

No dude, just no. I dont doubt that the Tacoma has a heavier flywheel than what would be in a Camry (if it were available in a manual) and MAYBE you could be right that Toyota could have gone so far as to use slightly different parts in the rotating assembly but even if that's the case there's no way it would completely bog down the engine as bad as these things are. You've got to remember that both those examples in the videos are automatics which are spinning a flexplate/torque converter combo that surely weighs as much as and likely more than a flywheel.

In the grand scheme of things our light duty little 3.5's are featherweights compared to a good portion of other engines out there and all of which rev much faster than this thing does. You want to talk about heavy iron, Ive got a '64 chevy truck with a worn out 4.8 liter carbureted inline six with a heavy truck flywheel and it puts the Tacoma to shame when it comes to throttle response. Even worse than that, I drive trucks for a living, my truck at work has a Cat C13 diesel (not the type of engine you expect any sort of quick revving performance out of) and even that has throttle response that will absolutely embarrass the Tacoma. That engine weighs over 2600 lbs by itself. The crankshaft alone weighs almost 300 lbs.

Our rediculously slow throttle response is absolutely an electronic issue.

    HA!

I've been called both the biggest complainer (@Shellshock ) and a huge fanboi in the span of a few days. :notsure:

    If you only knew lol.

I've said this to a number of ppl - If you enjoy your truck stock and don't have any problems, that's great and I believe you 100%. No need to spend $800 bucks on the tune.

I wasn't happy with the way my truck drove stock, and "suffered" the OEM calibration for almost two years. OVtune allows me to enjoy MY truck, it's that simple.

What I don't like, and have called a few bench racers out on, is when someone claims that the tune is bullshit and I should've noticed all the problems before I bought the truck (in other words, Toyota engineered it perfectly for everyone and if you don't like it - fuck off and buy a different truck).

Well, I'd rather spend $800 and keep my Taco than lose thousands trading it.

    First of all.

By killing Atkinson and burning more fuel, no added hp
And if what you mean by low out put is load sensing I disagree.

I wish it was load sensing.

My understanding is full OTTO kicks in at around 2700rpm.
Cruising high way speed 5 6th gears puts you under that .

    Opinions any one?

I can't understand why Matt is putting time and effort into eliminating Atkinson when he himself said its isn't going to make any beneficial difference. I like the tunes he's developed and it's a good improvement over stock but imho it needs a little more work.

I'm still curious if part of the laggy throttle off idle might be solved by getting rid of Atkinson, if it would be quicker on its toes and ready to rev freely without having to make the switch? I could be completely off base here though, the issue could be something completely different

@OVTune ? Any speculation on this, since full otto is a fairly common topic in this thread lately it seems

I see a couple of 3rd gen ORs that park close to my work area every day, I figure they must be on here because they have the requisite TW "mods" lol.

1st giveaway is the Pro/Faux grille, then maybe the tailgate stickers and such

Any idea what is up with the OVTune site?
I'm guessing you can not purchase this product right now?

    Totally agree with you.
If we are taking votes and it has any effect, you have mine.

But we must not forget how complex this platform is and that it is still in development.i for one prefere work on DFCO and REVHANG but there has been little to feed back from members on this issue.
So when MAT offered work on Atkinson, there seemed to be more interest in this issue than any other so I jumped in as the more work he does on this ECU the more he learns.

I had suggested a pole a wile back so Mat would know witch issue to target first by popular demand but no feed back.
