I've been in situations where I was confronted by others with guns and wish I'd had mine...and I've been in situations where I had mine - didn't need to pull it - but was glad that option was there becuase the situation was almost that hairy....in all those cases I happened upon crimes and went to the defense of the victems....

True. But unloaded is fine (though, of course, besides the point of self-defense).

Clicking the summary booklet gives the exceptions for CCW vs open carry. But you're essentially correct. That being said, if it's on private property, you're OK. Or, potentially, national parks (though I think you have to abide by state law too while on those ground)

Florida has had it for years. People who go to the trouble to get a permit and the pain in the ass of carrying a pistol concealed to protect themselves are generally smart enough to make this a non issue. In all the years I lived in Florida I did not hear of one case where a CCW holder got drunk and shot up a restaurant or bar.

It would be the primary reason I would stay south of the Canadian border (though there is much remote wilderness there I would like to see).... And out of NY, IL, etc., etc.... I don't want to give up my rights or the ability to defend myself just because I cross a state border. Hopefully someday laws will change making each states CCW permits valid nationwide. In the mean time there are plenty of states that allow carry so it those states that will earn my discretionary income….

Or wings me in a shootout with alleged would-be-murderer, and I get to sue him. :D

I used to carry all the time when I lived in St. Louis. Always concealed. One day, I was out with my girlfriend and her family and I wasn't carrying, and we were mugged at gunpoint.

Now, this story could go two ways:

1.) I could lament the irony that I had not carried with me that day and possibly prevented the loss of personal property and identification, the inconvenience of the police reports and stolen credit cards, and the feeling of violation and helplessness experienced by her family.

    OR

2.) I could say that $200 and some inconvenience and humility is a small price to pay for someone not getting killed or wounded -- either him or us (most likely him).

I'm not trying to tell anyone how they should react to that particular situation, but I haven't carried in public in the U.S. since, unless specifically tasked to do so (see earlier stories of Katrina, etc.)

Well AZ is one of those states where you do not need to keep in concealed. I wish Florida was like that!

That is not all correct. In Florida you can carry a gun concealed in a resturaunt that serves alcohaul, but you CANNOT be in the bar, or sitting on the bar side of a resturaunt. You MAY be sitting at a table in a resturaunt and drink a beer, that is 100% legal while carry concealed, but as long as you are not on the bar side. Now how does anyone know? they wont! unless you get caught. I am guilty of carry while sitting on the bar side, but if you don't start trouble, no one knows or cares.

Actually I visited Canada many years ago and I brought a shotgun with me as I was camping in some remote locations. At the time it was legal to bring a long gun across the border into Canada if you were going to be camping and needed “protection against wildlife”. Not sure what the laws are today but many Americans travel to Canada to hunt so you can probably still do this… But now-a-days I almost always have a handgun in my possession/vehicle and so would likely avoid places where crossing the border would make me a criminal…. I always wish to stay on the right side of the law… whenever doing so doesn’t compromise my own safety…. The nylon skin of a tent offers little protections against creatures great and small, four legged or two…

Actually, that would qualify as being in the middle of nowhere. Understand that law enforcement typically needs 3 to 5 minutes response time in a city. Require them to run 30 minutes out of town is a HUGE lag time when shit is hitting the fan. I live six minutes out of the city of Bridgeport. It took an HOUR for the volunteer fire department to respond to a grass fire that had started on my property. It was me and the neighbors keeping things from spreading to the house until they got there. Bridgeport police will not respond to country emergencies. This is the Sheriffs jurisdiction, and the one car in the area may be a good 30 minutes away. State troopers will also repsond to rural calls, but they are just as thinly spread out, and are typically busy running radar.

My mindset would be that if the perp would have pushed the issue into a shooting, that he would not be able to victimize someone else down the road.

I did it again. Got tired of paying truck payments and gas and traded in for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport since I enjoyed my 2013 Sport so much.
Ya, I'm kinda itching to support Arizona right now...good thing they have the Grand Canyon there :D

Someone needs to support our friends in Arizona in their struggle against the rising tide of violence coming across the border from Mexico… Our federal government certainly isn’t going to do anything about it. John Morton must go!
