Does anyone know how thick the 3rd Gen Pro's skid plate is and the coverage area? Does it protect the transmission and/or transfer case? Also, what is average pricing for a set of the gloss black 16" pro rims? Dealership quoted me $1000 for rims and $400 for skid plate. Definitely want the rims at some point but want to know more about skid plate quality. I know there's aftermarket ones but I use truck for daily commute and occasionally do maintained trails. But if I wanted to be more serious, would the skid plate survive any real off road stuff? There are no PRO's in my area to confirm sturdiness and any undercarriage pics would be greatly appreciated.

Pro wheels can be found for $760 on eBay if you time it right. I paid $820 for mine.

These are the 16" ones and not the 17" for 4runner correct?

Make sure you order them from a Toyota dealership, mine was based in Florida. Also, get them with the center caps already installed. Some will look cheaper, but by the time you get center caps, they'll be way more expensive.

Wow that's a great deal! Yeah the quote from the dealership was with caps included.

I've been debating the skid myself. There is a little door that makes oil changes easier. Coverage seems to be good. As i understand, the 2nd gen skid was flimsy, this one is actually built purposely. If I were to add it however, I would put lots of grease in the zerks up front, because accessing will become a giant hassle once it's on.

Following for any info on the TRD skids. I heard about the 2nd gen being on the lighter side so I am curious as well.

There's so many aftermarket options for skid plates. All are cooler and more affordable than the OEM Pro plate. And if you're going to get a full set of skid plates, all the more reason to skip that one.

As for durability, I'm assuming it's the same 1/4" aluminum that's on the 4runner Pro, and that one is reasonably beefy (but... you can get 1/4" aluminum from all the other guys, too, so meh).

The skid plate is very sturdy, I think it would protect the undercarriage if you bump up against a rock, or tree branches.

I own the TRD skid plate. It's a 1/4" thick. Coverage is good. It has a door access for oil cartridge change. Looks great in white. Says TRD on it that you could enhance with a vinyl sticker. Good contrast to all truck colors. It does not cover the transfer case. Lighter than steel alternatives but way stronger then the stock piece of tin metal.

Nice! Do you think it would work with an aftermarket transfer case skid?

Looks good. Seen a few pics of them with some gouging damage from rocks. Steel would be better. I believe it protects front two cross-members, front diff and oil pan.

You would be better off going aftermarket for the amount of coverage you want. Mobtown has an oil change access door to make it easier to change. They also cover all the way back to the transfer case if you want all 3 pieces.

My dealership matched the lowest priced wheels from the Toyota dealership selling on eBay. Never hurts to ask. Also by them ordering and installing them they come with full warranty. I think it was around $900.00 after tax and installation.

Pretty much every front skid will have an access door. He's specifically asking about the TRD Pro skid. But since you brought up aftermarket I'd recommend local or anywhere that has the best shipping for you and best lead times.

I like how it looked on my Pro so I got one on my OR too. It's just a bonus that it's way thicker than the thinner aluminum that came stock with the OR.

I don't think so. You should look into aftermarket to get a complete set of skids that work together.
