    Can't recall off top of my head. I am picking it up at lunch so I will check it out. I was way leery of the price too and normally do this stuff myself, but figured I'd let them take a shot at it. I have had nothing but great service from this dealer so I am hoping it continues with this!

    Yeah...do some tight 8 circles (in both directions) in a parking lot. That's supposed to force the new oil & additives into the clutch paks. Atleast, that's what we did with your corvette LSD after we changed the oil.

    Sweet! Yeah you should ask them what type and what brand of gear oil they used and what brand of LSD additive.;) Then we can have some more knowledge on what the dealerships are really using.:cool:

    We bought the vette used and it did start to make some funny noises, and hence why we changed the oil sooner than anticipated. Put the Amsoil sever gear in there, did a bunch of tight 8 circles and it's been fine.

    Wish the tacoma diff was that forgiving.....

    Okay everyone. Got done a little while ago changing out my rear diff fluid with some Valvoline 80W-90 gear oil and a 4oz. bottle of Redline friction modifier. Real easy to do IMO.;) After I filled it up to where it was leaking out of the fill hole, I tightened it back up, took it for a spin around the neighborhood then went to a partially empty parking lot and did a good number of figure 8's.:rolleyes: Didnt hear any grinding or whooping sounds so I guess thats a good thing.:D Got it back home, took the screw back off the fill hole and topped it off with about 1 more ounce of oil. All done!!!:humble: Now when I get another chance, I am going to do the front diff and transfer case.;)

    somebody doing their first LSD service should send the oil to a lab for analysis so we all know what exactly factory lube is?!?!??!?! hindsight is always 20/20.

    I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    Ha ha wait until you see your oil color :D especially one from LSD 12K and that thing looked black and it was not friction material it was burned baby:rolleyes:

    It probably varies depending on what contract they got with what brand of oil for cheaper prices. Even the dealerships don't use the same oils.

    Oh okay got yah. Yeah here within the next week or two when I get some time, I am going to swap out the front diff and transfer case. I found a good DIY thread on ToyotaNation that shows how to do all three with great pics.;) Well I didnt find it but someone posted the link in here.:rolleyes:

    Anyone know the toyota part number for the Toyota LSD friction modifier?
    If I missed it...my apologies.
    I would assume it comes in a standard size and 'all I should need' in one tube? (so to speak)

    X2!!! Just got done swapping out my front diff and transfer case oil. Like Krookz said, transfer case oil looked brand spankin new while the front diff oil was pretty nasty.:eek:

    anybody know a cheap way to measure the surface temperature of the rear diff? I've been sticking my hand on it after a 20 mile drive and its pretty warm. I can keep my hand on it without discomfort, but any hotter and it would burn. Its been quiet with dino and LubeEx additive however. I'd like to eventually get some redline in the near future and do a temp comparison. I figure if they both are smooth and quiet, whichever is coolest wins.

    Need one of those cheesy stick-on thermos like they use on surgical patients, only one that goes up to 200F or higher. Ooooh, what would be cool would be to have an actual gauge, so you could monitor temp going down the road.

    Yeah, I can believe that. My local dealership are full of retards, so I can't wait to see what kind of answers I'll get when I ask them. That's why I wanted to ask here first. I'd believe the information here before my local dealership (or call the back-up dealer). I'm gonna give Mobile 1 and factory additive a shot.

    Your gonna have a groaning rear diff. It wont show up right away, but after about 500 miles, you'l start hearing it chatter.

    No idea. I havent found an Synthetic oil, that didnt make the rear chatter (if LS equipped). I have tried Synthetic oil with No addative, factory addative, and double addative. All chattered. When I used Dyno oil, and recomended addative, no chattering. Only thing I can think of, is that the synthetic oils dont allow the friction modifier to work propperly in the Toyota diffs.
