Freed up driveway space for my GTI by pouring concrete on the side to park the taco.

 

depending on your local zoning, its quite possible that's not 'legal' unless you reinforce the sidewalk you're driving over. my son had to do that in Reno so he could park his camper on an RV pad in his back yard behind the fence.

 

It wouldn’t surprise me. I had the guys poured a slab between sidewalk and street at the same time. He told me City didn’t want you to use rebar on sidewalks. He put it in anyway. A couple neighbors have done the same and no issue. It’s the same sidewalk I drive across every day to get in my driveway. That doesn’t prove anything, just that, so far, no neighbors have been dinged. Last year I did get dinged for parking my truck on the side because there was no slab. The city of Oakland is pretty broke, so few inspectors driving around. Only worry is someone ratting me out.

typical code for sidewalks is 4" concrete over 4" crushed granite. typical code for reinforced sidewalk is 6" concrete with 4x4 wire grid 3" deep, over 4" crushed granite thats been compacted 95%. but this varies by city/county/state.
