Hello all. It appears that my trees are not growing as fast as my neighbors trees. They're the same type of tree and planted on the same day. I have a little bed rock on the base of my tree, could this be causing my tree to grow slow? I've attached a few pics. Thanks for the help ! 20180531_124517.jpg 20180531_124637.jpg 20180531_124307.jpg 20180531_113427.jpg

They appear to be the same size, his just has more foliage. Perhaps he is providing it with a more adequate watering/fertilizing?

Go to the source. Ask your neighbor what he does for successful growth/coverage. Our input will be more of a guess as to why they're different.

Thanks for reply. Ive talked to my neighbor before and he said he only waters once a day with sprinkler setup, no drip system. He also added that he doesnt use any special nutrients or anything. I dont know whats going on with my tree! All my other trees are growing strong.

Several studies have shown that turf can inhibit growth of certain trees, depends on the species of tree and turf involved; it's basically plant chemical warfare called allelopathy.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allelopathy

Here's just a couple of examples:
    http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/36/6/1047.short
    https://www.agweek.com/opinion/colu...ther-trees-grass-interfere-each-others-growth
    http://www.extension.umn.edu/garden/landscaping/implement/trees_turf.html

I'm not saying that's definetly your problem, but you might try replacing the turf with mulch around the tree; perhaps some fertilizer as well.

Interesting theory. Looking at the picture that does appear to be the only difference

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yea i think i will try changing the turf around it. Yea the only difference is the bedrock.

Whats the best setup for my tree? Fertilizer and mulch like you guys said? Im newbie with gardening. Is there a special mulch or fertilizer i need? Someone mentioned herbicide -what is this? Thanks again everyone !!

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Your neighbor's tree appears to have a fire hydrant near it. I would wonder if the hydrant has a leak underground and his tree is tapping off that? Getting a lot of extra water from a bad joint? Trees have an uncanny way of finding water.
