The low quality of it. It was my 5th Subaru. After 5 subarus, and 9 mazdas, I am done with the lower Tier japanese manufacturer.

Nope. Taking a look at last year, the JD Power Survey ranked Subaru 25th in initial quality. Toyota was 14th. Number one was Kia.

The mere fact that Kia is #1 on that makes it suspect. I had a kia for a rental once. Biggest POS ever. You could flick the dash and the interior would fall apart. Let alone the awesome steering and drive train. Disposable cars at best.

KIA has actually improved their quality dramatically over the last few years.

Kia is now owned by Hyundai. They share most of the same drivetrains, and both companies have vastly improved in design.

I still can't get the image of the 1991 Hyundai Excel out of my mind. That thing was a grade A unflushable turd.

True. But in its defense, it looks about the same as what GM and Ford (or even Toyota and Honda, but they were far better in terms of reliability) were putting out at the time.

When I was stationed in Korea 94/95 we had Hyundai Sonata's for staff cars. I thought they were a step above the normal Chrystlers we had at the time.

Agreed - I was there from '95-'96, and loved the SsangYong Rhinos and Hyundai Saloons we and our Korean contractors had. Head and shoulders above the American imports in quality. It was like they were exporting the cheap shit and keeping the good cars for themselves. The best were those Samsung sedans that taxi drivers all had. Smooth, quiet, comfortable, and even us "giant yanks" fit comfortably in the back. Fit and finish on par with anything Honda or Toyota was putting out at the time.
