    Thanks for the advice. I don’t have the OEM rack, but I do have a wife that I have to convince.

    Does anyone know the exact size for the hardware that attaches the cross bars to the roof rack sides? I turned a bolt head off of the bolt with a 1/4" drive socket wrench and need to replace it, wouldn't mind some extras. I can't seem to find one exactly like it at either of the local hardware chains and was thinking of ordering from McMaster Carr.

    None. You can leave the area over the sunroof free of bars. The only precaution I made was to just space them such that you don't have one right over the back half where the moonroof tilts up. It's close that it'll touch when tilted up.

    I wanted the bars spaced out evenly so I have a bar right down the middle Doesn't bother me but I could see someone with ocd going a little batty trying to decide .. Evenly spaced bars or one right right over sunroof.

    I'd also recommend using an anti-seize lubricant on stainless bolts to minimize galvanic corrosion. I used Permatex brand for aluminum. It also prevents galling and makes disassembly (or loosening) easier in case you want to adjust the cross bars at a later date. Also, there's no need to torque the bolts down much past when the lock washers are completely compressed.

    I’ve got a bunch of extra clear 3M autobody sealant. I assume that should be fine for the holes?

    Any one found a better situation for oxidation on the rack? The air dam on mine is looking brutal

    I ended up having my rack off for the winter, (it came off the 2nd gen and went back onto the 3rd gen). Mine is bare aluminum, and has been in the Canadian elements for two years on the truck before it came off.

    While it was sitting in the garage I took it back apart and polished the front windscreen and side rails. I used mothers aluminum polish, it makes a mess but comes out mirror finish. Overall it was in good shape, no oxidation other than a general fade. My biggest thing was I had a UO decal on the front and when I took it off it left a noticeable shadow.

    I keep a coat of wax on the front and sides, and try to get bug guts off there as soon as I can rather than letting them cook in;

    I don't know about any discounts. I ordered my cabrac and was told around 4 weeks for delivery, but they said that is just an estimate, so it could be longer.
