Seems that Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 synthetic gear lube is a good replacement for the stock Toyota on our Gen 3 Tacos. Just changed both of my differentials to Amsoil at 3.500 miles.

How long are folks here running their Amsoil GL before replacing it? Have read the Amsoil literature and am curious what real people see.

For reference, I usually change diff fluid every 50K. Been doing it since forever. Never any undue wear or problems. Always use factory fill. Have fun!

There’s a lot of owners that change the diffs to synthetic and never change again for 200-300k miles.

But I prefer every 60K with synthetic like Amsoil.

Truck is operated under severe conditions. Have a 1,300 lb slide in camper installed. We typically travel for months long adventures.

I put in severe gear at 5K and will probably just do it every 50K or some from here.

Lucas 85w140, once a year. It is dino and not synthetic. Diff's aren't ideal for synthetic oils.

Huh?? Wait, you put the wrong weight gear oil in your diffs and you diss synthetic? Not sure if serious.

I changed my diffs @ 15K to Amsoil. Took my truck in for 30K service and asked the dealer to change my transfer case oil to the special 80wt Toyota SYNTHETIC gear oil. They left my transfer case alone and changed my diffs to dino gear oil for a 2015 spec stuff. I promptly changed the diff oil back to synthetic amsoil stuff and changed my transfer case to the special Toyota gear oil and while I was there changed my transmission gear oil... all to amsoil cept transfer case @ 30K. So yeah, so far every 15K ish. Guess I won't be going back to my dealership for any service. May as well do it myself.

Front diff @ 15K was black. They get filled with synthetic from the factory. Food for thought.
