The explorer 2.3 has 30hp less than the Colorado v6, but 30hp more tq. For a truck is rather have tq than hp.

You are correct but ideally I'd rather have both HP and TQ. I will be disappointed if the normal Ranger matches the Explorer specs, I hope it is more in line with the Mustang specs at 310/350.

Horsepower specs are listed for tac ranges most of us never visit while torque specs are much more relevant. To draw any useful comparisons you need to compare the entire power band rather than just a peak somewhere near redline.

Ford said their goal was best in class towing so the low-spec explorer engine already meets that criteria.

BUT the 3.5 in f150s are on gen2 engines so maybe with the whole new platform we'll see a gen 2 2.3....

I read about the concept of this engine in C&D a few years ago, I didn't know that Ford was thinking of bringing it into production though.

Is this what you were talking about @20tacoma17 ?

Or was it more along these lines (with one crankshaft)?

What's the most people would pay for a Ranger Raptor do you think?

Canadian pricing for a TRD Pro is about 55k and the ZR2 is about 49k based on the websites

Not to mention they must have looked at a Tacoma brochure for inspiration. We must all tow a boat, kayak, mountain bike, and ride dirt bikes on the weekend!

Would like to see it stock in the field. Go head to head with a Tacoma. Also do they offer it in a manual?

I don’t think they do, and I doubt they will.

To mention what you said before,
I’m not worried about a turbo motor lasting 200k, the world runs on small displacement turbos. Also, there was recently an article (Jalponik, maybe) about the F-150 Ecoboost now being around long enough that there’s a few out there with 200k. With that said, I’m sure in the long run it’ll cost more to keep it alive... whereas with Tacoma’s I’ve always heard all it really needs it oil. :)

Is the 3.5 in the 3rd gen Tacoma time tested, or all new?

How proven is this engine and drivetrain? Plastic aside, could you expect 200 to 250k if well maintained, same as 2nd gens?

I’m sure you can turn it off when hitting the trails. I’ve never owned a car with it, but it’s my understanding that a on/off switch is standard.

As far as wear and tear... the go to answer seems to be that the frictional components have improved over the years and can handle it. Plus, it’s not a big deal when everything is up to operating temp.

Well I still have my 98 ranger I bought new. Not built like a toyota, it's rough riding and fairly noisy. Other than that love the truck. Will have to wait and see new one in person.

I can hardly believe they will not offer a full size bed configuration. For the sake of fleet sales if nothing else. All the fleet Tacomas I see are AC.
