I might go back up there to test out some more bikes. But I'm waiting until after the evergreen festival and st Ed's demo.

My first ride with the plus tire on the mojo 3 was quite positive. I didn't think I would enjoy it at all. But it ended up being a load of fun. The plus tire was super forgiving, cornered well, and just rolled over while grabbed everything even sides of rocks. If I ordered one I would go with the 2.6 tho as I think that would be the perfect middle ground (Haven't ridden one yet).

You and me both. Too bad 1up never runs any sales. Even 5-10% would be nice. I’ll just have to buck and drop the coin some day.
I ran that exact same setup on my old truck with a topper. Functional, but I hated dealing with the flippin axle :annoyed:

I live here so that helps, hopefully getting up to Bach pretty soon! And Whistler is definitely on my bucket list, never been.

Just switched from the Yakima Hold up to the Dr. Tray, and this is wayyyy more sturdy than my old one. The ease of use is great too. But the best part about the rack is the ability to have the tailgate open without having to put a towel or something down to protect it from the rack.

$529 for the double. I have an old Thule that I picked up at an REI garage sale for $50 but every bike that goes on it risks a paint chip in the fork because of the arm that holds the tire rubs the fork.
    IMG_20160630_201237.jpg
I tried a Northshore on a desert trip and hated it because the wheels spin if you don't strap them and we lost two bikes off the rack on a big erosion hump on a dirt road.

Yeah, Northshores and big bumps are a bad combo. Recon / Alta Racks do a lot better since they have tire baskets.

I’m a big 1up fan if you wanna a tray style hitch rack. With out a doubt it’s the best of the tray style racks. I have a 4 bike setup and it was just over $1000. You have to get the 2” double if you ever wanna expand to 4.

I’ve also used the NS and recon racks. I would do the recon if I wanted a shuttle style rack.

I basically used them all. I also have a tailgate pad. 1up used to have a “no risk” return policy. They may still have it. I’ve converted a number of people from Yakima, Thule, kuat, etc. I’ve also owed lots of Thule and Yakima setups. If I had to do it all over I would still buy the 1up.

I just strap it in and go. I've fit 5 doing this just by reversing the direction of each one, could fit more probably.

    Seconded on all of this.

    1up > all other trays

Alta Racks > Recon Racks > NorthShore

Tailgate Pad > Bare Tailgate? Raceface makes a good and stout one. Going 2 years of full time use before it is about time to replace it.

Tailgate pads are the way to go. Even works with my KBVoodoo Bedrack just have to put the dropper/seatpost down.

I'm going to try to ride a 6 at the demo day! I'm just afraid the hd4 and sb6 travel and slack would be too much for my skill level (low lol).

Proud to say I can now join this thread. I bought a new MTB yesterday to get back into riding. I have always had "wally world" bikes as a kid, I rode mostly bmx stlye (I wasnt big into trick, jumps mostly) and I rode a wally world bike around campus for a year at college. Fast forward 5 years and I have not ridden a bike regularly in a very long while. I knew I wanted to ride trails/off pavement and I got to talking to a few coworkers that had bikes and live in my area. They pointed me to a Trek dealer in my area so I went to check it out a test ride bikes. I bought a Trek Marlin 6, it seemed like a good starter MTB for me to break back into things and learn to ride trails and downhill stuff. It rides better than anything ive had before (remember, wally world bikes) and I am starting to get into the trails. I havent been this excited in a while and my first day on some beginner trails has me itching for some more.
