I have a Brute Force Plate bumper on the way with double square fog light ports on each side.
Thinking about running 4 of these http://cart.iggycorp.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=67 I just can't decide on the right combo; Spot, Diffused and/or Side Illumination.

I'll likely just wire these to the OEM Fog switch, along with Fog Anytime Mod.

What say you?

 

It would help to know how you intend to use the lights. If it is on the street or for rain/snow/fog/dust then actual fog pattern would be best.

 

Mostly street however, rural roads, fog, snow, rain (sometimes in the same day) are routine here in Michigan.

 

All of those except back rural roads you will want a fog beam pattern. Rigid SAE fog pods are outstanding, cheaper alternatives include:

Spot pods like you proposed have no cut offs and will blind oncoming drivers and provide a very narrow beam pattern which will not illuminate the sides of the roadway.

If you have spaces for 4 pods you may consider 2 for fog for use in poor weather conditions and 2 for spot to have long distance illumination than can be switched off for situations with oncoming traffic giving you the best of both.

What about a set of each you mention above, if so which on inside?

 

Assuming they are side by side it should be a wash. I’d probably throw the fogs on the outside as they should be as wide area covering as possible and wouldn’t want to obstruct their wide beam profile depending on the mounting situation, they will have significant pattern overlap in front of the truck. I’d then run the spots in the inside as a few inches for spot isn’t going to make much of a difference.

Also those OffRoadTown fog pods are 2x that of Morimotos, but Rigid has a much vertically wider beam pattern for more area coverage.

I’d hook up the fogs to your fog circuit and the spots to either the high beams or a separate switch,

 

I like the price of the Super Bright LED, and I have done business with them in the past. Can you recommend a good spot to use in unison with the fog? Also, any wiring videos for the above set up you mentioned would be helpful. Thanks man!

The page is mislabeled as fog, but if you look at the specs and photos they are spot 'driving' beams.

I took at look at your bumper and I think I'd reverse my placement recommendation from earlier. The deep inset on the inner side of the pod mounts on the bumper is going to obstruct the inward facing fog light, so I'd actually put the fog pods on the inside to get them closer together for better center beam overlap. The inner location is also lower, which is better for fogs, while the outer location is higher which is better for spots.

As with most things you get what you pay for. The SBs have the effective beam patterns and control you are looking for, but the output isn't near the level of a higher end pod like Rigid. A Rigid fog pod will be ~1.7x brighter with a wider beam area covering nearly 2x the illuminated area. Of course Rigid is also over 2x the price. So you need to balance what is right for you.

While spot is great for distance the area illuminated is pretty small and focused. Personally I would like real SAE Driving beam better, which will sacrifice some distance but still have a focused hot sport and give greater distance proxy illumination. Real Driving pods are less common but they are out there.

To wire the fogs up to your stock fog harness and control them with your stock fog button, you just need a set of these adapters to plug them into your OEM harness making it plug and play:

Last question, if I am running the fog set off the OEM fog connector I'll need the Cali Raised pig tail. However, if I am going to run the spots off the bright switch what/how will I address that?

 

A couple options

Get a male and female H4 plug, you the wire them together so they are basically a mini extension harness that plugs in inbetween the factory harness and bulb. On the H4 plug there are 3 wires, high beam power, low beam power and ground. T off the high beam power and ground on the home made jumper harness to a relayed harness to activate the pods. Click on the high beams, the T in the extension harness gets power, flips the relay and activates the lights. 100% reversible and not cutting or splicing of factory wires.

The OffRoadTown lights I linked above comes with a standalone harness, the SuperBrightLEDs pods do not. The OffRoadTown fog pods are also brighter than SBs fogs, though the SB fog has a slight hump in the beam giving more coverage that the ORTown does not. If you got the ORTown for fog and SB for spot, you could use the ORtown harness for the SB sport beam, and just have to build the jumper harness. Otherwise you can make a relayed power harness from scratch or purchase one like this from TRS and cut off the connectors to wire the connections.

Another option, that would be better IMO, is to use the headlight wiring harness from the Ultimate headlight upgrade:

This harness runs your headlights on a complete standalone harness drawing power directly from the battery, make your OEM headlights brighter and allow you to run higher wattage performance bulbs doubling your headlight output, but it will also leave you with an unused powered H4 connector since the headlights will now run on the standalone harness. With that unused H4 connector, you just need to buy a single H4 male connector wire your lights to the high beam and ground wires on the connector and plug it into the factory harness. The circuit is no longer used to power the headlights and can directly supply the power to run the pods with no need for an additional relay or standalone wiring system. Also 100% reversible with no cutting or splicing of factory wires.

Obviously the 2nd solution is more expensive, but it does benefit multiple lighting systems vs just the one.
