Grinder for the new center bolt...the old one will be too small w the added leaf

 

Yeah no problem, it’s fairly easy, tbh when i put mine on I didn’t even look up how i just guessed lol

But yeah i cant see any advantage to taking the leafs off, i would think it’s easier to leave them on

 

I wonder if his dakars use that stupid smooth center bolt like the oem ones do. He might be lucky and can just tale it off with a wrench

 

Was going to reuse the current one, read on OMEs site/instructions that you could reuse the original center bolt with a single AAL...or is that not recommended?

 

They all do and OME leafs have tiny center holes so he'll have to reuse what he has and hope it's long enough.

 

From what i read you need a new one, it came with my aal. If its too short you will need a new one

Well here's to hoping, lol. From what I've read it should work with just a single AAL, any more than that and you need a longer one. We'll see

 

The oem one is round and almost impossible to take off so its easier to cut it out, idk about your dakars.
But if ome says its long enough for a single leaf then sure use it personally i would get new ones because they are cheap. And just like u bolts the stretch after tge first time you tighten them so I would replace them every time i took them off

 

You can always hold the leaf up to the bolt before you undo it and see if it will clear, might be a good idea since you dont have spares handy

 

Guys will tell you that you dont need to replace the u bolts and center bolt after every time you work on them, and sure you probably dont and it will be fine forever but they are cheap so i jusst Change them every time

 

The problem with OME leafs is you have to drill them out to fit a generic 3/8 center pin or wait for ARB to ship you one of their new pins. That said I've never had any issue removing center pins, don't even have to hold the OME one's because they're knurled.

 

Yeah definitely....as much as I want to get this done today, nothing worse than getting balls deep into a project only to find out you don't have what you need and then have to put it back together.

 

I dont know about centerpins, but ubolts i would just switch out...went through a few in a month cause of shitty autozone replacements till i bought wheelers ones from someone on here

Next ones i get will be from alcan or ones they recommend as they use stronger grade steel than wheelers

RuffStuff are indestructible ubolts, theyre like 5/8 haha.

 

I've reused the Headstrong ubolts a few times now between swapping bumpstops and new Dakars...no issues but I'll knock on wood just in case

 

I think sd trucks bends them to order if you need them, but 5lug u bolts are different and the guys over a street taco make some I think out of grade 5 or 8 don’t remember which
