Ripped off all four mudflaps. Scratches all down both sides 6112’s up front on 3rd notch 5100’s in back with Toytech 1” block Skids & sliders from SOS Concepts I got rid of the 1” block and put on Wheelers 1 1/2” progressive AAL. SPC UCA. Be sure your standing on the drivers side when reading the instructions! I swapped sides so many times that I can swap UCA’s in 15 minutes. I put in the 3/4” spacer to eliminate the Taco Lean, and just got my 4th alignment. Traded the OEM rims for 17” Sport rims and a bora bora 1” spacer. I got my Firestone 285/70/17 MT2’s. Pelfreybilt gas tank skid and hi-lift jack should be here Friday. Looking at bumpers, but I think they will wait for next year. So far I’m happy with my build. I’ve done it all myself, leading to a lot of cussing and frustration, but it’s all mine.
Would this work to strip the chrome off of my bumper?
Oem aluminum rims to prep for paint?
I bought some sanding discs for my grinder, but it only has 1 speed and I’m afraid I’ll gouge the metal.

It might do the trick on the chrome, not sure honestly.
Wheels, I'd pick something else unless they're coated. Even then, you want something smaller to get into tight spots.
Get high grit discs if you use the grinder on the bumper. I used a 32 and 80 on my plate bumper and it gouged it in some spots

What did you use to paint your bumper?

It has since lost a few patches of liner lol
I can try to find my posts about it in my build

Curious, you put the liner over the paint?

I actually thought that same thing last night. I mean, no one is ever really going to see the thing so it doesn’t have to look pretty. I’ll just hit the flaky rust with the 3M pad posted earlier and wire brush the rest of it until the majority of the rust is off. Then I’ll hit it with some Loctite naval jelly rust dissolver and rinse it off and let it dry. After a few coats of some Rustoleum rust reformer and maybe a coat of some gloss black paint it should look good enough and be protected enough to go back on.

That's probably a better plan, but I'd suggest using Flat black for the final coat. Anything with a sheen to it will make all the flaws in the surface and paint especially Gloss black stand out. Plus Flat is a lot easier to touch up if needed later.

Yep. Felt like it gave the liner more to grab. Idk. I was incredibly intoxicated to deal with the heat at the time haha.
I also had about 10 cans of cheap flat black that were about $1 each from a past project, so figured I'd use it

I dunno how I don't get notifications from this thread for weeks at a time.

This is a super useful guide, if for nothing else than the diagram showing how the cams work.

There's nothing wrong with your tires sticking out 2" from the fenders :anonymous:

@presta24 and I both have several times now as well. I actually got my winch from there. Like stated, just check the condition of items. If it's something mechanical, it's probably broken, so look up the manufacturers replacement policy. You can luck out and get a real steal- I paid $200 for my X2O 12k from there, and it needed a new motor, but smittybilt warranty was still valid and they sent me one for free.

Krylon offers a rust-oleum type of paint in a "semi-flat". It doesnt have the chalky look of a flat but doesnt have a sheen either. Excellent results doing touch up. Holds up pretty well on sliders and bumpers.

Good call. I may even try the Rustoleum hammer finish black paint. It’s more on the flat side and has a texture to it so it should hide most of the flaws and should be easy to touch up later if necessary.

Hitch versus bumper bar after the work I did yesterday. That’s just the Rustoleum Rust Reformer paint on the bumper bar.

    One other thing Jeeps have....

    A tendency to kill drivers.

We were on our way home while ago. On 264 (Watterson expressway in Louisville) A Jeep Wrangler Rubicon passed us. About 10 seconds later, he drove partially into the emergency lane, corrected hard left, drove across 4 lanes through traffic and impacted the concrete k-wall. No top....no doors....no seat belt. Driver was ejected across wall and hit by another car. The Jeep continued about 300 yards down the road and finally stopped. I stopped just past the Jeep and ran back to it. Still idling and pouring gas, I reached in and shut it off. By the time I made it back to where the driver was at, 4 emts that just happened to be driving by on their way to work were working on the driver. One looked at the other 3 and shook his head no. Their sense of urgency turned to hanging their heads and walking away.

A seat belt could have saved him.

A vehicle with doors might have helped.

A vehicle that could handle high speeds on an interstate would have made a difference.

Sitting in a McDonalds parking lot now, waiting for the cop to come off the interstate and take a witness statement.

No DD Jeeps in my immediate future.
