Curious if ECT mode and default mode store the same “learnings” of the driver, or does the ECU separate learnings for both modes?

I’m asking because this morning was a sweet surprise. In default mode and turning into a freeway onramp at about 12mph, I pressed enough on the throttle to speed up and expected it to downshift. Low and behold, it did not downshift, but sped up nicely in that same gear. If it was in ECT mode, it would have been a great experience in that the rpms would have been a bit longer for performance. But I’m digging the default mode more and more. The Toyota engineers did an awesome job on the powertrain in my book.

For the past 25k miles on my ‘16 DCSB OR I never used ECT, thinking the ECU would learn/adapt/change.. it didn’t. Needless to say the ECT button is now the second thing I press after the Start/Stop :burnrubber:

So - does the ECT mode make it into overdrive? I thought it didn't.

When I first purchased the truck I noticed it but kinda what everybody else is saying, after the first 5k or so it seems to go away. Now its like it was never there. Once you get on it, the truck does scoot pretty well. ECT is cool also but a little too jumpy to have on all the time. Good for mountain driving though.

I certainly would if I could! Meso "did the work" and very much deserves the business. I'd be happy to pay him more for it. But since I can't, because Meso has other priorities, can you tell me what is garbage about the Amazon version?

*EDIT - MESO explains here: "Yup. Total ripoff of mine. And doesn't have the features of mine does(hold down to disable mod). Also, my ect enclosure is detached(not built onto the harness like that one) which will save wear and tear on the connectors from vibration/weight hanging off the end. It's a free market I get it, I'm actually proud someone knocked mine off. Too bad they couldn't put their own original thoughts into something. I'll keep being the innovator, they can keep being the duplicator."

FWIW, the only reason the sleazebag can sell his version is that Meso couldn't make them fast enough or didn't want to for whatever reason. I'm guessing some of his other mods make him more $ or are more interesting to a restless mind. So him spending time on those instead of the ECT module make sense. I'm concerned some of his other excellent mods will fall to the same fate. I know Meso has a "real job", but maybe somebody local could help him turn his hobby into a 'real' business? Absent that, opportunists will continue to capitalize. Nobody should be surprised.

My 6sp auto did the same when new. I have about 2500 miles on it now and it’s much better. From what I’ve read I understand the newer electronic transmissions basically learn your driving habits within the first couple thousand miles. The sales team should be made aware of this. When I asked why it seemed to be searching for the right gear all he could do was shrug his shoulders.

......AND, to quote Mesojdn, it "doesn't have the features of mine does(hold down to disable mod)."

No minor thing. Even though I can't get the module from Mesojdm, that alone will keep me from purchasing.

So don't chastised me, I have meso's mod, got in on the 2nd round back in November. It has been acting up on me recently and I was planning on replacing the relay in it to see if that fixes it.

So after having his mod, I couldn't live without it. Was going to make up a tr7 trigger and relay setup to use while I replace the relay. Because of this thread, I ended up buying the Amazon module.

It does work exactly like meso's module. It takes a second longer to trigger the ECT function, it DOES deactivate like meso's for dealer's visits.

I don't see a relay on the board like meso design, just a board with chips. Not too electrically inclined so I can't really say how it works.

The description on amazon has all the features updated, didn't hear any audio alerts to say it's working. It may have been drowned out by my radar detector starting up. It has a red light to show its on.

Edit: It does have a faint beep when ECT is activated.

Thanks! Can you comment on installation of the Amazon? It appears to be fused 'locally'. Power still from the fuse block at Meso version? And no, I'm not electrically inclined!

The Amazon one has instructions included. Also showing that I did buy one from Meso (laying next to instructions).

Yeah it has fuse setup like meso. I had gone the posi tap route off of the cigarette lighter leads and added a blade type connector when I installed Meso mod. Or his came with a blade connector already, not sure.

I just had to clip off the add a fuse, crimp on another blade (or spade) connector and plugged it in. You don't need a fuse for this mod since it draws very little amps and the cigarette lighter is already fused.

Sorry about the upside down photo.

Thanks! Nice to hear that the Amazon version does have the ability to turn off ECT by pressing the button as Meso's does.

I'll wait a bit on Meso, even though his solution was acting up on you. I do appreciate his work. But if he is not going to sell them but once every six months I'll have to just have to understand, thank him for the design work and move on.

No hard feelings on this end. Get it where you can. I actually stopped making the ECT mod at this time, as I am focusing on other new developments and products. Maybe later down the road I’ll revisit it, because there are some enhancements I’d like to make to it. Thanks for all the kind words guys:D
