It seems a recurring theme to modification is unintended problems created by the mod. This seems to be most common with lifts. What other mods might lead to creating more problems? How many of you keep it stock outside of upgrading tires?

I bought a Pro and went 1" bigger on tires so I wouldn't have any weird lift issues. So far, so good.

Me. I drive 30K a year or so. Your vehicle is at it's most reliable and durable in its stock configuration. I put Toyota 4Runner wheels on it along with some good P rated AT tires just to make it a bit different. It foes everywhere I need to go and the efficiency is still there too.
I started modding 35 years ago. I found out the hard way that mods, while marginally improving a vehicle in one situation, will definitely cause problems in other places.

^Same. With regard to suspension, I bought a Pro because it will do what I want to do with it without modifying it.

OTOH, you can change many aspects of your truck without screwing anything up if you’re willing to do your research and spend your money on high-quality parts. Lots of people out there try to go the cheap way out and it bites them.

Yes, mods may result in "unintended problems", but many of these problems are known before the mods, as are the "tweaks" to correct said problems. TacomaWorld is the frontrunner in the sharing and dissemination of this information. Knowledge is power! Long Live TW! :D

Haha how many threads pop up that start with "I lifted/installed/stereo/lights/shocks/spacers" and "Now I hear noises/squeaks/vibrations/blown fuses/etc."
    C'mon man. :D;)

Yeah, that's true. There are many folks out there with limited mechanical aptitude. It sure keeps things interesting around here!

That's my thought. I just find it hard to sacrifice the reliability of a stock configuration.

I am all about a stock configuration and learning to make the most of its limits.

If you don't plan on modding your truck and dealing with the benefits/ consequences of it. Delete your account here and never return. Best advice I can give.

I’m one of the few who added expensive coil overs and kept it at the same height as a Pro so I wouldn’t have issues.

If you do it right you will have none of those problems.
Supercharged, full long travel, 35" tires, regeared, full armor, lights, fiberglass bodywork and no issues with reliability or downsides to driving characteristics in over 100k miles.

Handles better on road and way better off road, 20mpg if I drive like a normal person and 325 of tire shredding horse power at my disposal if I choose not to.

I'll give you road noise from aggressive tires but that's about it.

x2. I owned my first car for seven years and by the end of it the car was so far removed from how it was in stock form that I didn't even consider it the same car.

Also, unless you find the right buyer, mods do not add any value to your vehicle when it comes time to sell it. Personally, I always try to purchase used vehicles in 100% stock form. I won't even consider something if it is heavily modified.

Just curious... why? Can't there be enthusiasts that like the truck stock?
