wow you are noticing a big difference with just the 265/75s? Are you running passenger tires or LTs?

I think the 265/75s will be my next tire, but not if I need gears.

^ I'm just a really picky person lol to tell you the truth I have no idea if they are lt or passenger. They are dunlop mud terrains so I'm guessing since its a mud terrain its and lt but I have no clue

I see no reason to regear with 265/75 LTs at this point. I've been running them for a good 35k miles now and still manage to average 19 mpg in the city, and up to 22 on the highway. Now you can obviously expect to lose a little bit of pep, but its not to the point of re-gearing unless you are doing some serious off roading, i.e. crawling. Last month I took a trip up to Big Bend Ranch, a good 450 miles from my house, I averaged right at 83 mph on the way up and still managed to get 19 mpg with the bed loaded down with just over 1k lbs of supplies.

On the contrary, I could see the rear end gearing becoming an issue with 285/75R-16 and up.

Agree'd, with 265/75/16s, there's definitely a noticeable loss of power, but there are things you can do to compensate. And it's not a big enough deal to keep from buying them.

I drove up to flag from phoenix. Averaged about 90 miles per hour and had it in 4th gear close to 4k rpm for a good 50 miles....I averagedjust under 19 mpg :) I was super stoked about that haha

wow. thats great to hear. I'm making that trip, but from tucson next week. I'm not planning on going 90, but that sounds about what i get with the 265/70s at that speed. I'm getting great wear out of the factory dunlop and bfgs so I'm not gonna buy the 265/75s for at least a year (fingers crossed).

We'll i got 22 up to flag and 22.5 on a trip to the petrified forest and back @ 75mph.

Any one else have 33s or 35s on theiur 4cyl trucks with gears still averaging 20mpg? I'd like to think if I did the gears it would still perform, but don't want to take the chance. Its a big investment, 2000 for lift, 800+ for wheels, 1200 for tires and 300+ for gears to have it not workout.

I'm thinking 6" basic fabtech, AR mojave teflon 17s, 315 bfg a/ts (or yokohama makes a mild tread in the same size) and 4.88s. I drive 80 miles a day, 60 freeway and avg 22 mpg. I'd like to keep it there and hope the gears would do that for me...I know it will go down a little, but 20 avg would be acceptable.

Its also not necessarily just the 33" that you need to worry about. 6" lift, tires and new wheels add a lot of weight and rotational mass which will kill your mileage. Sure you can regear to get some of that back but damn haha

this i know which is why I am asking for practical experience, not just stating the obvious. I've achieved 20mpg with several heavy loads at freeway speeds. Which is why I ask again...Does anyone have any real world mileage figures (corrected speedo) for 4cyl trucks with 33s or 35s and appropriate gearing?

    I'm running 245/75/R16's on my '07 2.7L mini taco...

Is it worth changing the ratio in the diff? I am noticing a power and MPG drop (as expected), but is it worth it?

And is it any harder to work on limited slip diff's than open ones?

Camper top with racks, Custom fogs behind lower bumper. Interior LED lighting, Rock Lights, Hella 500s with upraged bulbs behind black billet grill, AAL, Front 5100s
Bump. Interested in the price of regearing as well as the difficulty. I'm running 265/70/R17s right now on stock FJ Alloys and the price of regearing and/or decreased performance is totally not worth the larger tires.

Its not hard if your patient and know your way around a diff and knowledge of rings, seals and that sort of stuff. The service manual would be great help for that if your doing that sort. I called back over there to get another idea and quote from desert rat in tempe and they quoted me around 300 if memory serves right. If you have any thoughts on getting a locker I would throngly wait to do it all at once

285/75/16 MTZ's.... OME lift(885s)...4:88 gears.... Front and rear ARB.... Homemade skids
I just put 4:88s in my truck a month ago and just came back from a trip to Moab and Colorado from Ontario.. This is a 33 hour drive .. All I have to say is i love this ratio and glad i went with it
Driving at 75 the rpms are at 3100 ish which is perfect.. I could drive in 5th with 600 lbs of gear in the back no problem.. some hills I would normally have to shift down to 4th with my 265s and stock gears I could cruise up in 5th.. and driving at that rpm for 10 hours straight was no problem... the 2.7 seems to love reving..
I did have alot of trouble climbing some of those steep ass hills in the colorado mountains.. where i had to have it in 3rd reving at 4 grand to make it up.. i dont think i would have been able to make it with a lower gear..So if you live anywhere hilly like that i would suggest this ratio
Not 100% sure on my mileage yet as the speedo is off around 18%.. But i didnt seem to be filling up anymore then usual
I will be picking up a dakota digital box this week and will let you all know what the real numbers are when i get my speedo fixed..
The gains i got offroad are outstanding thou.. allthou the front and rear arbs i added as well may have something to do with that:D

    That's sex right there!!

How much for the install of front and rear locker and gears? Id love to know what kind of mileage at 75 with 265 and 4.88 you were getting. I know you said your speedo is 18% off but for the sake of knowledge for us all (highway especially for me) could you please please tryb to calculate your miles per gallon?! Thanks

I've got 285s on.. changed gears when i moved up to a 33.. the whole shabam compressor, lockers, gears were 2800.. I got them fron ECGs as thirds and installed them myself over a weekend and sent mine back for core swap..
I was hitting 118 miles at 3/4 tank which would be around 100 miles and 200 at half which would be around 175 and 290ish at 1/4..
I never went below 1/4 tank on the trip cause i never knew how far till the next gas station...
All those numbers equall out to be almost exact with my 265 and stock gears..
I was religiously hitting 340 whith the old combo of tires and gears and looks like its gonna be the same with these..
I'm hoping to pick up the dakota digital box this friday and install on the weekend..I will be able to get exact mileage then..
Even if i loose a few mpg, its well worth it for the gains in my opinion
