@DoorDing I thought you mentioned a few pages back you had the Pelreybuilt Group 31 battery tray on your build. I’m thinking I’m going to go this route instead of Duals since I really don’t park for days at a time ever and if I do I’ll just run solar. Any pics of it?

How do you like the Big single battery? Which battery did you go with? Thanks in advance.

hopefully the additional tariffs announced against steel//aluminum imports from Canada/Mexico won't cause another round of price increase for the GFC. Maybe this will fire up domestic coal production, and reinvigorate steel plant relics in Pittsburgh as promised, because the local population miss the days of black skies, though i suspect the price will have to jump up much higher before that concept becomes efficiently profitable.

with a single battery, could always add a low voltage cutout that disables a solenoid feeding the auxiliary circuits so you never drain the battery below its ability to start the vehicle back up.

o_O Oh no no no... please don’t wish for Black Skies... I’m as conservative as a guy can be and I’ve worked in power generation a long time. Trust me we don’t want this country to have pollution like China. Hell we don’t want China to have pollution like China....

Only one world we all have to share. Coal Scrubbers are a wonderful albeit expensive thing to have on your coal burner.

Yeah the only real draw I’ll have is a 63qr ARB fridge and it has an auto shutoff built in to prevent that.

Curious at what voltage level do they cutoff? (May have to look up the specs myself) Do the off brand types have this as well?

Speaking as a native Pittsburgher, nobody wants the mills back and the city is doing just fine without them. I currently live in Ohio and go to KY and WV a lot too, and most people there really don't seem to want coal back either. It's like a few thousand people who still work in the mines are speaking for the whole state during photo ops. Lots of WV folks are trying to move to a tourism based economy. They are actually building a state-wide network of off road trails that connect to touristy towns and permit ATVs on the roads: https://www.mapwv.gov/trails/

Such a beautiful place. Seems like we could do more than just burn it all.

It actually has three different settings.

This is the page that describes it. Actually pretty damn sweet!! ARB is a little expensive but IMHO you get what you pay for. I’ve been very happy with it.

Yeah, I'd go with the High setting if you want to preserve the ability to re-start the vehicle. That is a good feature for those folks that have not invested in upgrading their electrical system, (ie dual battery/ larger single battery, solar charging, etc.) but having a portable power unit such as @DoorDing has with his Clore unit, along with this feature, gives the user some peace of mind from being stranded.

Correct ace7196, up to 2A per USB port. Until I find a better solution, yes I'm using Posi-Taps for the brake light and a bit of Super88 tape just to make sure. My preference/procedure for powering the GFC Platform is as follows: 16AWG with appropriately sized ring terminals for both the + and - to attach to the battery; Inline fuse on the + wire within a couple inches of the battery terminal; Zip-tie the cable down the brake lines to the E-brake; At this point, bed configuration will dictate the cable's route into the bed either through a drain hole or other air gap; Solder the power cable from the engine bay to the lighting kit power cable provided; Enjoy your GFC for years to come

I've been to Pittsburgh for a work trip, and that's the impression I got as well. Seeing the history, and some of the old mills (jungle gym anyone?) appreciated the changes that have benefited the city. Alas I digress, as this thread is about GFC, still curious overall the impact of the new tariffs on the GFC, and as a side topic if the tariffs actually benefit steel production in the US? As for Aluminum, looking up the stats, US production has dropped in terms of using imported bauxite, but made it up for it by recycling. Still US production cannot produce enough aluminum to meet its demand, and imports >60% of its need from Canada. An uptick in aluminum costs will impact the other camper products for Tacomas as well.

Dometic has the same cutoff ability. I don't remember the exact voltages off the top of my head but it has a low, medium and high setting.

This would be a great time to deliver my GFC! I'm not planning to go to Overland Wally World but that would be really good timing for me to pick up my GFC! Of course, it would also require that GFC increase their mfg speed and finish my GFC a couple weeks ahead of their current schedule...

    So get on it boys!

Anyone attach an awning yet? Debating if I should pick up a 270° awning to have coverage over the tailgate or keep my 2.1m awning and enclosed room on the side. A 270° would be nice but I think I’d miss having the extra fully enclosed and bug free space the awning room gives me.

Looks like the cushions are just sitting in the bed here, no special bracketry yet. Is that right?
