Funny you mention that, I think I am going to go back to flats later today actually. The 50:01 guys have inspired me..

I love flats, but clips are just so much more efficient! I shaved over 10 seconds on a climb just by making the switch lol

I can believe it, they're badass. I can see myself eventually deciding on a loose platform clip. Best of both worlds

yeah! like mallets! I don't like crank bros flats (snapped 2 spindles) but I like their clipless mechanism the best. You have the most float and it's easy to engage and disengage

After racing Super D on Saturday, many of us returned on Sunday for the DH race equipped with speakers, air horns, cowbells, and festive costumes. Watched a few good spills, a lot of fast shredders, and drank a few beers. Maybe you can spot me in this picture, keeping a low profile as always.

Looking for a little help. My GX Eagle is kind of having a few hiccups.

First let me say when in the stand it just kinna sounds tough. Not how gx Eagle should IMO. Under load, much less noticeable.

Second, in my 50t rear, while in the stand if I spin my crank backwards my chain slips off the 50t at what seems like the exact same tooth 8/10 rotations. Not every one, but damn near.

Third, when shifting down the rear, I get the the 7th from largest and it just starts to sound a little worse than the others, then on the 6th from largest I seem to find my chain catching on the same tooth after every single rotation. Just a “tick” sound every rotation. Nothing crazy. But enough to make me wonder wtf is going on.

Then from there to my smallest cog no real problems. Seems to be working fine.

Hanger? Cage? Cassette? I’m trying to get better at this self bike mechanic stuff.

What did you do before this all started? Did you just replace parts? Did you just crash recently? Did the bike sit all winter? Need more info!

There are different issues when it comes to the folding hard covers, mine is a soft roll up. I’ll get you some pics later... PM me as a reminder and I’ll get that done in a few days.

Basically, the rocky mount fits no problem, and my bike mounts up to the mount no problem (I have a slack headtube though). The problem was my fork lowers were about 1mm from my roll up cover metal bracing. That was too close, if the bike bounced on the road it would hit and I didn’t want that. I just got some aluminum bar stock and wedged it between the rocky mounts and the rail, bolts were long enough and it pushed the mount back to give me enough clearance.

You could also get a different rocky mounts, the one that sticks out really far. That is what they suggest we use but i didn’t like it not locking. I use a pad for short trips but the rocky mount is for locking the bike in on longer trips.

Purchased the bike 2nd hand last month after the original owner put literally 29 miles on it.

Bike was boxed and shipped to me with the derailleur locked out and wrapped in tons of bubble wrap. Otherwise shipping was professional.

No parts replaced. I assembled and rode. I do not recall any of this happening on day 1 when bike was assembled in my stand. Then again I may have not investigated it hard enough. No real crash. Wider bars then I’m accustomed to has put me on my side a time or two since I got the bike, but nothing that would cause any real damage. Bike wasn’t winterized as he bought it in late March and we made the deal in late April.

I lived in Naples for a bit while I was finishing grad school. I rode a private trail in southwest Naples and a trail east of Fort Myers (caloosahatchi) most of the time but I would drive to Alafya (east of Tampa) and Mecham (west of Ft Lauderdale) when I had time. Alafya was my favorite FL spot. I’m a Utah native, I would much rather ride steep nasty chuck but it was nice to ride the mountain bike while in FL. Alafya was a super nice mtb park and the trails are well designed.

I think take the first, and easiest step. Disconnect the cable from the derailer, and set it up from scratch. (If you have a front derailer, do that one too). If you don’t know how to do it... lots of good videos on YouTube to show you. It’s not hard.

If that fails, pull the hanger off and look for damage (this is also easy, but it doesn’t seem like the problem, thats why i suggest this second).

Also, remove the chain and spin the wheel, make sure the rear gears are straight, and they dont move side to side as the wheel turns.

Let us know what you find. I’m hoping that setting up derailer will fix the problem though.

Sounds like your hanger is a little bent or not aligned correctly. I have a gx eagle and it’s flawless. Take it to a decent bike shop.

I grew up in Naples and I currently live in Ft Myers. I tried to go to Caloosahatchee Park a couple weeks ago and all the bike entrances were closed off. The website said it should have been open though . I wasn't sure. If that was a typical occurrence or not. Instead I took a 20mile ride up and down McGregor to get the itch out.

I was able to set them up in such a way on my last tacoma that I could close the tailgate, but the square tube at the front of the bed on this one won't allow that setup

Could also just be cable stretch. I assume you tried adjusting the barrel up front?
Otherwise, good advice thus far. Reset, start from scratch, check hanger (it does sound like a bent hanger), watch videos, try again.
Sometimes rear mech tuning drives me up a fookin wall.
