Your rear door looks like a different shade of Silver, noticed that on some Quicksand and MGMs before.

I found this forum when I googled Tacoma long bed vs short bed and have read everything in this thread. Before I read the thread, when I did my build and price thing on Toyota, I just assumed I’d buy a LB, because, well, bigger is better, right? Now I’m no longer sure.

I have a question that I hope someone can answer
There is a YouTube LB vs SB video during which the guy stated that the LB is better for towing because it has a cooled transmission that the SB lacks. Is that true or pure BS? I have a feeling it is more BS than fact. I haven’t seen any credible info that states that. What’s your take?

I want to use the Taco to pull a travel trailer.

Is that 4000# dry weight? I’m contemplating buying a Taco to pull a TT that is bigger than a bread box, which is all I would be able to pull with a 4Runner or Highlander, both of which I had previously considered.

Yes, thats dry. With all my stuff I’m in the neighborhood of around #4500 or a tad less depending on what I’m bringing extra in the truck. Taco does pretty good but can feel it back there around 60-65mph. She chugs along fine. If I was full time RVer or even went out of state on major road trips all the time Id consider a half ton.

Yea, its BS. only thing is if it has a tow package or not. If both do then thats BS. I will say however since the LB has a longer wheelbase it will be more stable with a hitched trailer behind it than the SB. Otherwise its all about the tow package.

Who needs a "long bed" though, really. A whopping 6 feet :)

Anyway, short bed works just fine for hauling a few pieces of short lumber:

Short bed is fine for my kayak at 10'4". My friend has a 13' canoe, which is a bit too long without using that curved steel extender thingy.

Coming from a 2 seater sports car, it took a while to get used to the longer wheelbase. Would not want a longer truck for that reason. Also, I don't haul much besides the kayak and an occasional Home Depot run of stuff.

If you lie down with the tailgate open it's 6.5 feet. Yes? Add a tent and air mattress, and voila. Cozy.

Not at all. Unless you're LeBron James. Total length is a little more than 6.5 feet. I went out and measured it where I keep it at night—in the garage.

Oh wait, LBs don't fit there. So sorry.

Putting a tent in the bed sorta defeats the purpose. Id hate to be be sleeping with tailgate open, exposed to elements and mosquitoes. Last year i slept under the tonneau in total peaceful darkness, this yeat i grabed a softopper for more space with all the peotective benefits

Yeah, never any bugs in a tent on the ground.

But yes, I would love a SoftTopper. I'm taking up a collection for $1100, including the top and the tent extension.

I have to go to sleep now. Getting up early to put my kayak in my SB, and drive down to the French Broad to paddle a bit tomorrow.
