Because accident wasn't my fault. If I pay deductible and insurance covers it, they go after the guy for me. Since he's obviously a deadbeat they won't see any money and my rates will go up and I will have an accident on my clean record. All said and done, I will end up paying probably 4x plus than just paying to fix it myself and keep a clean record.

Isn’t that what uninsured motorist coverage is for?? That way you don’t take the hit when you get hit by a deadbeat...

Anyone have interest in a set of 4 31x10.50x15 KM2s on MB wheels? I have the Discount tire certs for all four and they probably have 65-70% tread left.

had a similar issue happen to me...even tho i had uninsured coverage...since the guy couldn't afford to pay my insurance i ended up having some weird accident surcharge on my insurance bill.

Price adjusted, as I think I over-priced them. Still willing to hear cash offers!

Trades I'd consider (+/- cash, as needed):

    - 2nd Gen hidden winch mount
    or
    - front high clearance receiver hitch
    - quality winch cradle (Warn preferred; the one-piece design appeals to me)

    - 0 degree sliders with fill plates

Uninsured motorist covers 2 things. Physical damage and property damage. Physical damage is paid out no matter what because a human life/health is not worth arguing for in court. Property damage is paid at the insurance digression. If it is a hit and run, then they do not pay. Technically this is a hit and run since he left before the police came (DPD took 1 hour to respond, weird). Although there were witnesses its more than likely the insurance will treat this as a hit and run. IMO Not worth me using it and taking the risk of my insurance going up when I can just fix it my self for $500.

So then is it worth paying more a month plus a $500 deductible to have a shop fix? So when its all said in done I pay an extra $10 a month or so for "unlimited years" and $500 for a shop quoted $1,400 or I just pay a $500 out of pocket and do the easy work myself and keep my insurance going down instead of up. To each their own, but I think of auto insurance as catastrophic insurance. Years ago I was in a bad accident that totaled my jeep and all said in done was out about $300k in medical bills. That is when insurance is worth dipping into for that monthly payment. Or when you do more than cosmetic damage to/total your vehicle.

My dad sold insurance for a living, so I have a different view on insurance. At the end of the day they are a business and businesses are in it to make money. There is no way they are going to pay money without it someway benefiting them. They have layers on payroll for a reason, to protect their money.

Not currently. If you find three other people to buy the other rims and tires I'd split the 4 tires up though.
