I’m very happy with my Harbor Freight Earthquake gun. Packs a punch, and hasn’t left me stranded.

Done with the new CV axles for now, at least.

Well... I think I put the driver's side seal in backwards, but I can't get it out without damaging it. The passenger side seal is in, but I didn't have the right tools to set it in per @timmah's video on the subject. Oreilly's bearing and seal driver set wasn't much help. If it holds up for a few months till I can get a floor jack I'll be happy to swap it and the driver's side out again, I get them swapped in about 45 min. a side at this point.

The snap ring pliers I have sucked, get the duck bill style if you have manual hubs. ADD have an axle nut, right?

When I did my axle seals, I used a metal die from the ball joint press I had.

I didn’t want to buy a seal driver when I replaced my Rear Main Seal, so what I did was I went to Home Depot and bought a 2” toilet flange and tapped it in that way.

ADD has an axle nut: I want to say 44mm?

Manual Hubs will have that snap ring, and bolt + washer for the end of the CV axle.

I bought some Relentless Fabrication ones, I haven’t put them on yet on account of them not being fully welded and painted yet but they are HEAVY DUTY. It’s all 3/8 steel and well constructed.

Fascinating. Totally interesting how these older languages are becoming more and more necessary to know as they become older and obsolete.

My professor wrote COBOL professionally for several decades, I believe that’s what he wrote the Orchard Supply Hardware point of sales system in.

If you go back into COBOL, there’s a whole metric ton of money to be made. The people who know it are old and dying off, and the people my age want to learn something like a C# or Java based language instead.

I wont ever go hard enough to justify welding them on, rather spend the extra money and get the bolt on ones

I don't think I have that... I removed the locking hubs, popped off the snap ring and washer, and unbolted the lbj and the cvs fall right out

anyone have a picture of this bolt?

Not sure if I should agree or just try to keep from flipping over...

Just remember I wasn't trying to flip over. Also they're easy to cut off anyway if you decide you're done with em

I know. Mostly just giving you a hard time. As you know, I'm a fan of the weld-ons.

Here it is. I think I asked @Speedytech7 a question about this bolt when I did my swap. I believe it’s not necessary, just an added precaution to prevent the CV from sliding out of the steering knuckle.

I know you were. Doesn't matter now haha, now I have a truck that performs better and I like a lot less.

Me neither. But they’re much cheaper than the bolt ons.

Yeah that bolt isn't required, just make sure you have the snap ring.

I’m just remembering how much of a pain in the ass getting the correct rear driveshaft was during my swap. I drove two hours to Sacramento to Rancho Truck Parts, and when I got there the right D/S was “nowhere to be found” even though I called them and told em to put it aside. Toyota never put good part numbers on them on how to identify them either.

I ended up bringing my original PreRunner d/s to a local Driveline shop who does drive lines for industrial machinery and automation equipment to shorten it for me. I didn’t even have to give the guy a measurement, he said just mark where the carrier bearing is and that’s all he needs.

The front end work was the easiest. Rebuilding the Manual Hub steering knuckles was fun - I regret not doing the wheel bearings though. I have this incessant speaking coming from the FL steering knuckle.

Professionally sandblasted and powder-coated Manual Hub faces, brand new OEM hub bodies, new UBJ’s, and fresh coat of POR15 on the whole thing.

At the point where I actually went over I was doing maybe 35-40 when my wheels dug. Before that though probably closer to 50-55 and I just barely noticed a turn and got too tail happy.

True I suppose with 2wd and being lowered you won't be getting yourself into too much trouble. Still nice to clean the roof of the truck
