Just tried sport mode for a little 'romp' .... really fun. ~ 500 miles so not taking it much north of ~3K rpms yet.. but i can see it has more to offer ...

How many miles before we can turn it loose a bit?

I guess this means 1000 miles?

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:
    ●For the first 200 miles (300 km):
    Avoid sudden stops.
    ●For the first 500 miles (800 km):
    Do not tow a trailer.
    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
    • Avoid sudden acceleration.
    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

I feel that those numbers are written by lawyers to cover a manufacturers ass. I've owned multiple very high mileage vehicles from when they were new, and beat the crap out of them right out of the gate. After 1000-2000 miles I will stop beating on the car/truck. After a bit I notice that I've gotten better mileage than advertised, no engine oil leaks or oil loos, clean looking oil for all changes, and my vehicles have lasted close to or over 200k miles with no issues. I've done the same to my Tacoma.

Bought mine last Thursday with 6 miles on it. Redlined and spinning tires pulling out of the dealership. Its a TRD that's what it's made for!

Tacoma doesn't have Sport mode. The S does nothing other than keep the transmission from shifting above the selected gear in S mode. So there is no difference in throttle response or anything like that. If you select 3rd for example and leave it in that gear, the truck will still shift to 2 and 1 all on its own. I believe Toyota means Sequential mode and that's why they stuck the S on there.

It does, however, not use the AI shifting when it’s in “S” mode. So it doesn’t “learn” when in that mode of driving.

yeah, the S mode is just keeping it from hunting gears which makes it feel right. You can also just get a tune from OV Tuning. Can also try the ShiftSense but needs a little more attention and your ODB port (but it's way cheaper). I'm still loving my OV tune, though I wonder how much strain I'm putting on it by punching every light. :D

Probably no strain at all. These engines could handle a lot more than they are putting out now.

So as far as the 's' mode is there a way to override the computer to where it doesn't decide which gear it needs to be in according to rpm's? So essentially making it a manual transmission. would that be possible with a mod?

Well you can pretty much do this by shifting into S1 and upshifting/downshifting accordingly. Not 100% but close

Yeah I've noticed that it will still choose gears for you. Especially at highway speeds over long distances. Don't know why these trucks like to run in 4th gear at 3000 rpm going 80.

Right? Makes you wonder what the other 2 gears are for?

    Superior 50 mph/mpgs?

If I could get that thing to stay in 6th gear I would definitely get 50+ mpg
