I once helped out a bunch of ladies in a limo at a winery. The limo got a screw in a tire. The locking lug nut socket wasn't in the limo. I took the scew out of the tire and replaced it with a bigger screw from my truck. Tried airing it up and it still leaked. I used a bigger screw from my door latch and it worked. I followed them back to the limo yard so they could swap out for a different limo.

I would save myself the pain of disassembling my truck by just keeping a plug kit and a 12V compressor with me. ;)

I have lost count of the holes in my tires I have plugged, aired back up, and kept rolling. One of them is the body mount bolt that is in my avatar.

I'm going to agree with others and ask why you are putting so much thought into it? You picked up a nail, unknown when. Patch it, be done with it. Why try to put in so much effort to figure out when it happened? Mountains out of molehills man

I am not here to contribute to this thread positively in any way, shape, or form.

With saying that, I just want to say that this thread is an absolute waste of unlimited thread space in this forum.

    Where’d OP go?

Unless the nail was on purpose somehow, I’d also say patch it and move on.

He's out scouring the hardware stores looking for matching nails and who bought them so he could blame someone for the nail in his tire.:stirthepot:

I once had a small twig stuck in my tire when I had my maxima many moons ago. I could pull it out and could hear the air leaking out. So I just stuck it back in. Drove for months like that and checked every once in a while to make sure the twig was still there. I don’t recommend doing that but back then I was young and stupid.

The rate of leakage over days' time could be influenced by parking the tire on a bump, rock, or other terrain feathre. This might flex the tire material and open (or close) the hole more than normal, affecting leakage rates. Nobody here has an answer to your question. You need to take this question to the OCD forums, they will surely have an answer for you... if you are even still around.

So what you're saying is that you got a pinch on the cheek and a butterscotch candy, then.

No I am not looking to assign blame, or to collect money. The tire was fixed for free by a great outfit where I bought the tires.

I was just perturbed at both my friend and myself for my agreeing to go out of my way three miles to pick him up, when we were heading in the opposite direction.

I felt he should have picked me up, but I did not push the issue since he was driving to our destination 30 miles away.

I suspect that this is when I picked up the nail due to the terrain. I would be less pissed if I knew it was not likely during this unnecessary trip that I picked up the nail.

Some common sense from either of us could have prevented this nail, which ended up costing me work time and pay.
