I was meaning, did you use a remote antenna while using inside the vehicle and are you running a CIG power outlet connection. Broadcasting on high power inside the vehicle could cause large amounts of RF reflection and signal coupling causing an electrical shock. I've never had that issue with my handheld

Interesting. Tell us more about "limiting voice communications". I want to understand this.

Not familiar with that particular radio, but unless it has a true dual VFO every time you send out or receive a beacon it will momentarily interrupt whatever is going on in your other tuned channel.

I think the issue is APRS really needs a dual channel radio with it's constant packet sending, it disrupts/ walks on any other on going transmissions on a single channel radio.

Basically the switching for transmit between voice and APRS frequency has to be performed manually every time you wish to use it. The 7900 will dual watch, that is about it though.

This also, but the APRS packet transmits very fast so i didn't think this was an issue

Just FYI, if pulling the Tacoma World file into the software for updating the Yeasu, RT systems, it doesn't recognize the repeater tones and sets them all to 100hz.

    Yeasu software? Not chirp?
    Does it import a .csv?
If you can export a stock csv I can try to match it.

Yaesu uses the RT Systems software and cable for programming. Yaesu doesn't play well with CHIRP but you can copy/paste CSV files in pretty easily.

That is what I did but for some reason this one didn't take the tones. I manually set them, I'll try to get on air tonight.

I dont have a yaesu to test... have you tried chirp?
here's a snip of the model menu. anecdotally, it would suggest that it works :notsure:
    Capture.jpg

some stuff from the chirp website...
Note for Yaesu radios: There are series of steps that must be followed in order for Yaesu radios to be properly cloned. The above process is still accurate, but keep in mind the following:

    • The radio should already be in clone mode before clicking the OK button to initiate the download (step 5 above).
    • After clicking the OK button (step 5 above), you should press the button on your radio that initiates the clone transmission. This is usually indicated on the screen by Clone TX or similar.

Note for Yaesu radios: Like the download procedure, the upload procedure must follow a particular sequence. Make sure that your radio is already in clone mode and it is already waiting for an incoming clone transmission. This is usually indicated on the screen by Clone Wait or Clone RX.

So here is a weird one, both my 2m/70cm and CB have an effect on my radio audio/mode controls. 2 different head units so I assume it is weak shielding on the aftermarket converter for steering wheel controls. I'll likely just eliminate it, any thoughts on shielding it though? Chokes on the wiring?

When either is Keyed up the volume or channels will go up. The volume is annoying because it goes from zero it being heard over the mic in about a second.
