24 ft trailer towing

2014 Tacoma 4x4...Im thinking of getting a camper. It weights about 4200 lbs. Anyone has this same set up? Thoughts? Concerns? I plan to get a equalizer hitch and brake assist. Other than that what else will I need? Helper springs I guess? Info on camper:2016 FOREST RIVER SALEM CRUISE LITE M-241QBXL

I towed this around for a year and a half on the stock suspension (4,500lb dry weight) using just a WD hitch and brake controller. You are going to want to watch your transmission temps.

 

I suggest air bags, my TT is roughly the same weight, and the air bags helped HUGE...

 

I tow a 4700lb 23' camper. Bought it last year and had no mods but a brake controller, WDH, and sway bar. I've upgraded my suspension since and now have new shocks and a 3 leaf progressive in the rear. I'll be heading out on a camping trip a week from today. I didn't have any issues with the stock suspension last year, and don't anticipate any difference this year.

You do have to keep an eye on your temps though. I use a bluetooth Kiwi3 OBD adapter along with the OBD Fusion iPhone app.

I went lighter but it's all good. Most of these guys did a bit of work to make them tow better

+1 on airbags.

 

Airbags are for loads in the bed. They are a poor choice for leveling due to tongue weight as they do not shift enough of the weight off the rear axle. A properly set weight distribution hitch shifts the weight off the rear axle to the front of the truck and to the trailer axle(s).

Hey Guys, I have a Keystone Summer land mini, 21 feet total 3195 dry weight. I have towed in 4th gear a couple times from the dealer 20 miles and around town to practice.
I am moving from So Cal to Lacey, Washington in 3 weeks. I will be towing the trailer Just over 1000 miles. I re
Question:I believe it is best when towing to tow in 4th gear or below in other circumstances.

Absolutely not in D overdrive. Does everyone agree?

4th will do you well at that weight. the truck will kick down a gear when it needs to. I just finished an 1100 mile trip and it worked great in 4th.

ive been thinking about a camper for a while, but have held off due to worries about being underpowered. Im of the type that likes to be happy with what im towing, not just, eh, it can do it.

Anywho, a few have said look out for trans temps. What are people seeing towing in the 4-5000 lbs range, and has anyone had to stop?
