We just had a cardboard trailing arm a few post back. That's pretty high level shit for TW.

Ha! It’s getting there. The guy drawing it up for me has been busy. I just use the foam and cardboard to help figure it out.

I know that’s not the he finished design but put a Center rib in the link and make sure the shock pocket areas are BEEF... and if your running out of shock travel u can always take the spacer out to turn the 14 into a 16 and the 16 into an 18.... just sayin.

Side note here’s the links I did(not for a double cab) gunna start chopping it apart this month

does taking the spacer work for bypasses? i have 16" coilovers on the way but wanna plan for 18" bypasses, if i can do 16" bypasses without a spacer that'll be cool beans

One issue is the piston will drop below the bypass tube. So depending on how you have it setup it could be very stiff at full droop then it would soften up once it gets into the bypass tube, its going to feel like when the shock is in the bump zone and past all the bypass tubes. Probably wont matter much but a little different than a coilover

Also you run the risk of bending the shaft around full droop as the spacer is there for shaft stability by keeping a safe spread between the seal head and piston to keep the shaft inline with the shock body. Especially on longer shocks.

Some people may get away with pulling a spacer and some will not.

well see, these didnt cost me anything, just a tad harder to find bypasses in 18s, specially pure race 3.0s

What he said... but also at the position of the travel it close to full droop anyway(off the ground usually) so does it matter? Sure a little bit.... will it work tho? Yes

If your links are setup correctly it’s not an issue

The tube is just 1.75”x.120” wall DOM the bottom skid piece is 1/4” and the upper box is 1/8” and 3/16 Center rib.
Did the same set on a friends Tundra that we race... “race proven” lol

It can still be an issue with perfectly setup suspension.

Shocks are built with spacers for a reason. It's extra cost in material and machining to put spacers in shocks.

The shock companies know what they are doing and understand packaging is important and are not in the business of making shocks that are longer than they need to be for no reason.

Also depending on the bypass tube setup at the seal head side of the shock, droop of the piston below the lower tube/resi holes in the body can possibly lead to excessive wear band wear as they are typically fullsize holes to the tubes unlike the small multi holes drilled at the top of tubes where the piston generally travels.

Especially on shocks with skinnier plastic piston wear bands.

The piston usually sits just above the bottom comp tube and resi port holes on the shock at full droop.

These are possible drawbacks to removing the droop spacer from shocks.

You are welcome to your opinion that it's a non issue.
If that's how you want to build things that's your business.

I disagree and don't like to give advice that may cost someone their hard earned money if things go wrong and expensive parts get damaged.

Then in this case, if shock mounts and suspension geometry are built around a short shock with a removed spacer that failed , it's a lot of work to cut off mounts and rebuild for the correct length shock.

Ive been throwing away money building shitty prerunners for 20 years now and I've learned to build it right the 1st time.

Like I said.... will it work? Yes..... could you have issues? Sure. But from seeing multiple trucks with pulled spacers... on the coilover part anyway.... zero issues from what I’ve seen
