Did my first Lexus key card last year and used techstream and a new card. Love it.

Now I definitely want another (just did OP's , passenger smart handle retrofit) and I am feeling confident with techstream enough now to try the used key method.

Now all the cheap used keys seem to have dried up on eBay. Wth, have tacoma users been snapping them up, or am I just blind. Stupid me, should have bought a $50 one when I had the chance.

Your original key fobs will still work, you can register 5 keys total, so this is in addition to your first two.
I see you have a 2017 so tailgate key should be the same as the emergency Key which slides inside the card.

Here’s the part number for the emergency key. A quick search is showing $40ish (I don’t remember what I paid back in 2016)

You probably won’t be able to get it cut at your normal hardware store though, it is a Laser cut key, and they are getting more common, but still may need to go to a locksmith or dealership and pay a little more to get it cut.

My dealership couldn't cut keys, had to go to a locksmith. Best bet is to call around and see who can do it and for how much. If a locksmith can cut the emergency key, most likely they will also be able to add the remote as well, probably a lot cheaper then the dealer. If you run into trouble @2ski4life7 , I found a place in Portland that did both for me at the same time.

If you go to your local dealer and order the E-Key and you have the small ID tag that came with your keys they should cut it for free. Or at least give you a good price on cutting it.

Got my new emblem a few days ago from @CBoy808 and it fits perfect, thank you. Also big shoutout and thank you to @EagleUSMCRet for the great measurement.

I went to the local Batteries Plus store to get a new battery, of course they don't stock them. The worker said he can order me one for $10 plus $8 shipping. I seriously laughed at him. Said I'll just order from Amazon. $18 for a battery, you kidding me?

Found a used "LX570" smart key on eBay that appeared to be right p/n.
Last nite got my tokens from weboctupus.nl
Did the smart code reset (16 mins...) using techstream and OVtune cable.
Reprogrammed my 3 existing keys and my 'new' used key back to the system. All worked perfectly.

Now have a smart cardd key for spouse and one for myself, (and passenger side proximity handle).
    Thanks again OP.

I believe it is to access functions on the tech stream if you choose to add the key yourself.

    Ahhh gotcha.

Well - add another successful one to the list - dealer did mine today - new fob and key - cut and programmed for $52 in about 15 minutes. Dealer was so excited he is trying to figure out if itll work on his '16 T4R Limited... anyone know if that'll work?

Next up - passenger side proximity handle mod.
