What do y'all think we can expect from the new Entune systems that will support Android Auto and CarPlay?
    • Will they come to new Taco's?
    • Do you think we can swap out the current Entune with one of them?
    • Will they work with the display in front of the steering wheel?
    • Will the scream button on the steering wheel invoke Google Assistant/Siri instead of the poor Entune?
Now that I own my own 3rd Gen Tacoma, I've discovered how much I really hate the Entune system. The short list for me is that the interface is garbage, the maps are incomprehensible and obnoxious to input trip details, and I keep crashing the damn thing with normal use.

I know that probably none of you know anything about Toyota's future plans with this, but I'm interested to hear your opinions and speculation.

Will existing Entune systems and Tacoma owners be screwed when CarPlay launches on the 2019 models?

Sounds like Android auto isn't coming for a very long time, if ever. Apparently Google collects all of the vehicle info and Toyota doesn't like it... so unless a lot changes, I wouldn't expect Android Auto.

My sales guy told me Apple CarPlay was coming in the 2019 models but couldn't say if the 16-18s would get a software update to get it to work. I had a Cadillac and when CarPlay launch they didn't update the older models even though they had the same "Que" system.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are significant hardware concerns when upgrading to something like CarPlay, both with Toyota implementing and Apple approving it --- especially when the Entune is basically a 2000's era TomTom.
