What is the best way to keep from scratching it? Feather duster? Compressed air? Windex?

This. Dampen one corner of a MF cloth, clean the lenses then flip immediately to a dry side to buff. I used to use paper towels and terri cloths and my '01 has micro scratches:( you will not get those with micro fiber.

I use sand paper. Saves me from speeding tickets.

Doesn't really matter. Whatever you use will scratch the POS plastic Toyota used. Eventually you'll get use to the sandpaper look on it.

ive already replaced mine twice now( i have a little OCD) .once when i bought it.it was pretty nasty from the first owner. and second time the dealer wiped the interior down when i had some body work done and it left it with all these water spots that wouldnt come out. i use plexxus cleaner and a clean microfiber towel.I had a jeep with a soft top and the plexxus was some great stuff

My 18 is two weeks old and I've never touched that plastic. Yesterday in the sun, all I could see was scratches in the light. It's just super crappy plastic.

Could have been from the dealer. When I picked up my truck it was evident that the detailers did a quick job and wiped my dash. Now I have those scratches when the sun hits it just right.
Maybe I will replace it some day.

If you're like me, you've already scratched the glass with a microfiber towel. Use this stuff:

    This is the answer.

After the duster does its thing, I used a microfiber cloth and 70% isopropyl to finish the job. No scratches yet.

I use the Swiffer also, along with a can of air for cleaning electronics.

Don't. It will scratch regardless of what you use. I haven't touched mine in 2 years 20k miles. Fortunately though you can replace them.

Too bad it's NOT made of glass! If it was we wouldn't be having this discussion. ;)

I noticed on my wifes Rav4, it's scratched as well, but I didn't think it was for several years and not until I found out how easily ours are scratched did I even look for it. I believe the angle is why ours looks so bad. The Rav4 sweeps towards the hood from the top, while ours sweeps towards the hood from the bottom. With that said, I use my sunglasses case and it's not scratched enough to bother me yet.

Can confirm. When I bought my truck it had scratches on the instrument panel from the dealership's detail monkeys wiping it down with a paper 'protectant' swatch to make everything shiny while it was on the lot, and then again when I picked it up. I gave it a quick buff with the PlastX and it's like a brand new cluster; no visible marks at all.
Definitely takes a light touch and the absolute softest microfiber or cotton towel you can find, but if you're patient and gentle it works wonders for cleaning up those scratches.
And once you get it fixed, don't scratch it again! I use compressed air to clean mine, because I'm just OCD enough that scratches on the panel drive me bonkers.
