My father had told us from as long as I remember that unless we are going to college, we are paying him rent to live in 'his' house once we turn 18 and are done with high school. It worked wonders knowing from the get-go that we will not be a getting a free ride through our 20's. Once we turned 14 it was time to get a part time job, no more allowance and we were responsible for buying our own things at that point. He had 4 kids and only one stumbled for a bit, but got his shit straightened right out when he owed $400/month to move back home and buy some time.

My wife has a slightly different outlook because she came from a more well off family, but I am in the mindset of my son following the same upbringing. You're 14? Go get a part time job in town to keep from sitting on your ass all day long. Amazing how many people do not know how to put their head down and do what they are told for work (always wonder if having a job from early on teaches that). Have one buddy who is 32 and still lives at home - been fired from every job because he doesn't know how fall in line and keep from making waves. The manager would ask him to do something and will immediately tell him its stupid because of "x, y, and z".

That stinks. I have a friend with asthma that ran track and XC in highschool, and does landscaping. He is fast too. I guess it doesn't affect everyone the same. But it definitely shouldn't render someone immobile.

I'm not sure what my wife's car has on them, they're Michelins but they suck in the wet and snow. They're one of those 'low rolling resistance' tires meant to increase MPGs. I have dedicated snows for her car but, even in the rain, they're pretty terrible. I think they're Michelin Energy Savers or something like that.

For a truck, I'd look at either the AT2 or LTX MS, personally. I had 2 sets of the AT2 on my F150 and really liked them. I had a set of Pireli Scorpion ATs on there for a very short while and don't have many good things to say about those tires...

I use my credit card for everything I can and never carry a balance, my wife is the same with her credit card. Over the last 3 years we've bought 3 round trip airfares, a snow blower, a push lawn mower, and a spin bike all with credit card points.

I do have debt for mortgage, student loans, and car payments. Overpaying on all those things though, and maxing out my companys 401k match I am OK with having those debts currently.

debt isn't necessarily an awful thing, if you're paying it off. from my understanding, at least. Way better than someone being 20-30 with no credit history to speak of.

Yup, never paid a dime in CC interest. The object is to let the saps that do pay interest pay for your rewards!

OT would be nice, but I'm salaried. I'll occasionally do work on the side, but not often.

We get no 401k or match because it's a public job, but we do pay into the state pension system. I put a tiny bit into a Roth recently, hoping to start maxing out the contribution limits next year.

Probably should have done it years ago, but I focused on house stuff and I really wanted a new truck so it waited. I figure I have to make a few irresponsible financial decisions and enjoy life.

Mine are good in rain, but not snow.

I may run them and get dedicated snows, I'm not sure yet.

Thought about Nokian's A/T tire too. I have friends who swear by their all weather tires.

You have to enjoy life every now and then.
It is definitely hard to develop financial discipline, especially when young.
It's always a question of wanting something vs needing something.

That's the stage I'm in at the moment, definitely spending more than I should be at the moment. At least I'm not being too stupid with my money yet, just go through ebbs & flows of spending habits. When the spending slows the savings really jumps each month which is nice. Plus I've been contributing a decent amount into my 401k since I could start so it'll pay off later; followed my Dad's advice and each year with a pay bump to bump your contribution & you'll never notice the difference. Not maxing it out as I should be it's not slacking; and hopefully paying into it for 40 years will be nice when I get it at the end.

@bucktales there are so many wants though; especially on this site. I found that having a good way to track your financials & making a budget really teaches you a lot especially early in a career. My gf thinks I'm nuts with how much I track but, it just makes it easier to know exactly where you stand on stuff & determine if you can really afford that want yet.

so i have this weird squealy air sound sometimes under acceleration, at first i thought it was some weird tire rub when i am turning but it does it even when it's going straight now. checked for ripped boots etc but never found anything. Thinking the sound is coming from the intake but really don't know why seeing I just replaced the filter and everything looks fine. It's never consistent. Thinking I should look further into the intake closer to the fender and see if anything pops up as an obvious issue ? :annoyed::crazy::notsure:

Did you install a supercharger and forget?

    Oh man!
I was at the grocery store the other day and I heard a Hellcat go by. Didn't even need to see it; I'd recognize that noise anywhere. But seeing it when I turned around made it even cooler.
