1up sells a barrel lock that prevents someone from accessing the bolt to undo the rock. You can get this keyed the same as the bike locks (that prevent the arms from being pulled apart to get to your bike). Also, the velcro that prevents the rack from coming off if the pinch bolt loosens up over time is kinda weak so I supplemented it with some oversized carabiners. Having said that, if someone wants your rack (or bike) and have the right tools, the 1up locks will just delay them.

Rode last night with a friend who just picked up his new trd offroad long bed. I rode my old specialized enduro because my bike is in the shop. It blows my mind at how crazy easy my sb6 makes it feel comparatively. On a side note I have some beautiful models that are in need of work if anyone is trying to get some glam shots in with their trucks...

Do the bikes stay in place fairly well during the drive?

HOw do you like the bike? I'm using an OLD mountain bike from my college days. I am patiently waiting to upgrade to something reasonably priced.

I have only ridden it a few times so far, still learning a lot about the hobby. Currently have my tires around 40psi when I was riding around the neighborhood. I will be hitting some more trails as I have time off of work. Working 12hrs right now.

    Holy 40 PSI. That's gonna be a no-go

I would recommend dropping pressures to 25-33 PSI for a more stable and less rattled ride

    New Marin Hardtail looks dope.

Finally an affordable slack hardtail on the market.

Yeah, thats on the pavement. I havent had much trail time yet. I was looking at the tire and it stated keep the psi between 35-55, or so I thought. Like I mentioned, still learning so any advice is welcome and appreciated.

What size tire? That's a very high recommendation

As @flipnidaho says, the optional lock blocks access to the security bolt. And, at least on my 1Up, the security bolt has a “security” head which requires one of those Allen keys with a hole in it, in a large size which isn’t included in most of those 99 piece driver sets. In fact, I tried to find an appropriate socket that size so I could spin the security bolt down with a ratchet, and couldn’t fine one. So without an angle grinder or a huge-ass prybar, I figure the rack is pretty secure. Mine hasn’t disappeared yet :)

Im in the same boat. Just started riding again less than 2 months ago. Dont even know where to start looking as far as a starter MtB thats why I asked. Have gone out mostly on trails with small hills. Went to the local bike shop and the options were overwhelming. Suggestions are welcomed.

I just saw that on Pinkbike. One of the few bikes that made me immediately go to the brand website to check it out. It's nice that the top spec model is sub 2K as well. Transition's 29" Hardtail (admittedly carbon) at above 3K is just a little too rediculous for me as a "side ho" bike.

I went to a Trek dealer near me that was recommended by coworkers. The guy didnt upsale me and walked me through the differences on each model. I ended up getting the Marlin 6 because it was a "middle of the road" type of MTB that I felt I could grow with if I stuck with it or I could sell and not be losing a ton of money (still a lot but not over $1000, lol).

29er. Bontrager tires that came on the bike. Its not a + tire or anything, standard MTB tire. It was at 60 when i checked it, going to 40 helped a lot but id want to go lower on the trail.

I generally like to educate myself before posting to avoid embarrassment, but this time just said "eh f*** it" and posted my idiocy for the world to see.

For the money, that actually looks like a decent bike! I would recommend maybe getting a good set of flat pedals if you haven't already. A set of Raceface Chesters is like $40 but drastically improve your riding experience over the default plastic pedals. Just watch your shins :D
