I dont race. Just a spirited take off. Honestly didnt see him until I heard the blow off valve. IF, I was down to race it wouldn't be there. And I wouldn't have 600lbs of tools loaded.

 

Do you have a gasket between the manifold and spacer...as well as....spacer and throttle body??

 

Yessir. Made my own for the tb to spacer. You can see it if you look closely at the corner. Its grey in color.

 

Yeah, that’s why I asked....I thought that’s what it looked like. I thought I only had to put a gasket between the TB and spacer.....but I’ll do both be at as I haven’t even installed it yet, or my cool ass radiator.

 

RTV works too. Spaced to SC has an o-ring.

Question to all you supercharger, shift-kit, upgraded transmission guys out there - if I am going to do a shift kit and a different trans cooler, along with the new performance radiator, what fluid type should I use? I've heard someone say a while back that the standard Toyota fluid is best, but have also heard people saying they could feel a real difference with premium fluid like Amsoil. I'm not afraid of spending a little more money, and still need to decide if I am going to do it myself or have it flushed, but would like your opinion please.

 

My reading has yielded that Amsoil is a good choice, or use the Toyota world service fluid and just change it more regularly (30k or so).

 

The truth of the matter is that if the transmission is properly built and has no impending issues (assuming you keep the fluid clean) then there should be no reason to not use standard stuff. I used Valvoline Maxxlife in mine. From what I remember WS fluid has a low shear point, much lower than other brands. Good for long life, as long as the trans stays under a certain temperature after that it degrades incredibly quickly.

 

I’m not so sure about the “degrades incredibly quickly” statement. My trans got to 240 F last year a few times, maybe even hotter. I had a sample of it tested by blackstone labs. They said it didn’t bother the fluid that they could see. Maybe it does shear lower than other fluids, but if you have atleast the tow package temps really shouldn’t be getting that hot. I feel like I was in a pretty worse case scenario (110+ weather, ac full blast, moderate speed mobbing in the sand then hitting a bunch of stop lights on my way back to the hotel).

Again I am sure there are better fluids out there, but I think a lot of people paint the WS fluid as low end trash fluid.

What ever fluid you use just remember the manufacturer recommends changing fluid at 30,000 miles or 25,000 for rough duty. If you change the fluid often I don’t see the WS fluid being a problem.

I’d love for someone to post some data sheets of the WS vs other fluids. I tried to find them a while back, couldn’t find anything on the WS fluid though.

 

We are going to need @gearcruncher to post up his WS to Maxxlife MSDS compro sheets.

I am on board with changing out fluid every 30,000 depending on how severe duty you are running your truck. If you tow you might want to consider doing it sooner. A clean transmission internally is a happy transmission!

 

Sand is a killer on tranny temps. Tq not locked, high constant load, and low vehicle speed = high temps.

 

CSF and larger cooler to the rescue!

 

Yessir! Just need to install my Tru Cool Max 4920. It's a 24K btu unit measuring 4x21. It's going right below the condenser and I'm removing the stock tranny cooler for better intercooler airflow.

 

Crickets over in OV Land.

 

That's not good. Like at at all. So what about the dudes with self tuners like myself.

 

Last big outburst shut things down. I want it to work too. Seemed a better 2018 answer to tuning.
