I meant to illustrate the vast difference between Toyota and VW here.
My 01 first gen was 14 years old and had 150k miles on it. I bought it used in 09 with 100k miles for $12.5. I sold it for $14k. Still going strong as hell, full OME and new brakes.

My wife's Jetta was new 02 off the dealer lot before she met me. A leaking freeze plug was its death warrant at 120k miles/15 years. Towed away for a $500 tax write-off. Probably the best thing to happen to me so far this year knowing that it won't maim my wife and son.
