will a 2018 automatically brake if you get close to someone or if you’re coming up to a red light and don’t stop soon enough? While not in cruise. I know adaptive cruise disables at 20mph

I believe only if it senses a high speed crash. It's definitely not reading stoplights and it won't work at low speed.

I know that. Not being lazy was just curious because sometimes it feels like it brakes itself before I hit pedal and sometimes not. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

It's definitely not. You'll know if it brakes for you. It screams a warning first.

Mine went off yesterday on the freeway. Someone cut in front of me as everyone was stopping. Car beeped like the Russians getting a missle lock on Tom Cruise in Top Gun and then my brake pedal depressed all the way down (on it’s own).

Cool feature, but bad as I could have handled without the full brake lock. Also bad if someone behind rear ends you.

I think my sensitivity is in the middle, I’m going to drop it to the lowest notch

You can adjust the sensitivity of the pre-collision?

Ok that makes sense. You can adjust the volume of the alerts, but not the braking system. I was thinking you meant you could dial down the sensitivity of the brakes, y’know, if you want to rear-end someone with a little more gusto.

With this tech is going to come a whole different set of questions.

No, questions like "Has anyone narrowed the FLIR amplitude in order to see further in the desert" kind of questions.

Likely, but I’m pretty sure all conversations on TW eventually end up with tire rub, or transmission complaints. I’ll be surprised if anything ever overtakes those topics.

What is this pre-collision detecta doohicky you speak of  We’re still trying to figure out exactly what this crawl control thingy is for on my 2017. It sounds like rocks in a dryer and shakes like a rug in a unbalanced washing machine on spin cycle! :rofl:those 2018’s are advanced enough with their Toyota Sense that they should have their own 4th Gen Post. I love technology, but I’m sort of glad I have a 2017 with a few less kinks to sort out.

I believe what your feeling is the electronic brake booster. Completely normal.

Hmm.. Mine goes off several times per week (because I'm that guy that rides your ass for driving too slow in the fast lane). I've never noticed it brake for me but then again, if I'm on your ass, my foot is already on the brakes. :D

I believe the warning alert and the application of the brakes are different functions. The braking only happens in the last moment before you fly out the windshield.
